1st Grade News

Dear Families,

Dear First Grade Families, It's been an exciting week in first grade, filled with discoveries and adventures! Our mathematicians have been hard at work comparing their heights with rockhopper and king penguins. In our phonics journey, we've been unlocking the magic of reading by exploring word parts to read and write with more fluency. Don't forget to ask your child about their favorite word discoveries this week!

Warm regards,

Recognize that communication changes depending upon the situation.

What friends and learners are doing at school...

Counselor explains how our tone of voice, body language and words can change in different environments. Through examples of scenarios at school such as the library, the rug with the teacher, recess or when we talk with friends, our brain has the ability to change our communication. Then we did an activity with our partner where the counselor gives us a conversation topic in a specific scenario, when the scenario changed, the trainees changed their tone of voice, words and body language.

What friends and learners could be practicing at home...

Discuss the actions and reactions of book characters as you read. How do they respond in different ways depending on where they are and who they are speaking with?
