5th Grade News

Dear 5th-grade families, 

We have an exciting upcoming week ahead of us! We're having our Gratitude Feast on Tuesday, November 21st (please make sure you complete this form if your child is NOT participating). We are thrilled to go on our first field trip of the year on Wednesday, November 22. Please make sure you send the permission slip signed by Tuesday, Nov. 21st. Last but not least, remember there's no school on Thursday and Friday due to Thanksgiving Holidays. We are thankful for your constant support!

Readers will learn that you can summarize complex texts, drawing on previous learning about the main idea to lift the levels of summaries.

Spanish Literacy

Learning Goal

Redactar, revisar y editar capíutlos del libro informativo. Desarrollar cada capítulo con información general y específica.

What readers & writers are doing at school...

Los escritores pensarán, dictarán y escribirán en sus hojas de escritura la información sobre el tema de cada capíto del libro informantivo. Desarrollarán cada capítulo con una breve introducción general y desarrollarán los dos subtemas en cada apartado. Revisarán agregando información específica y editarán con la revisión de la ortografía, la puntuación y el uso de mayúsculas

Investigar, a través de la lectura, información específica sobre el tema de sus capítulos y subtemas. Tomarán apuntes de la información que entendieron y con sus propias palabras en sus cuadernos.

Friends and learners will use calming strategies so we can Stop, Think, and Cool Off from our strong emotions.

What friends and learners are doing at school..

Identify emotions—strong or mild, pleasant or unpleasant—that come automatically after a situation.

Identify things in my environment that influence my emotions, thoughts, and actions.

Practice emotional regulation strategies to become calm when I have strong emotions.

What friends and learners could be practicing at home...

Think about a situation you have experienced with a strong emotion. How did you use the Stop, Think, and Cool Off! strategy or how could you have used a relaxation method in that situation?
