5th Grade News
Dear 5th-grade families,
It's incredible how fast this trimester went by. We want to thank you for partnering up and helping your children set goals for this academic year. Students will be having a Winter Picnic and a picture frame activity on Friday, December 15th at 9am. Please remember we also have early dismissal at 11am on December 15th.
We would also like to remind you about the Christmas Box Project service project. Remember December 13th is the last day for students to bring their boxes. We are grateful for your collaboration! Happy Holidays!

English Literacy
Learning Goal
Compare and contrast central ideas from different authors.
Identify author's perspective even if it is not explicit.
What readers & writers are doing at school...
Readers will learn that as researcers come across subtopics, they pay particular attention to how authors portray topics in similar and different ways. They compare and contrast the central ideas authors teach, and they will examine how authors teach those ideas. They will also pay attention to the author's perspective and how the author might be swaying readers to think, even when the author's perspective is not explicit. The readers also consider the trustworthiness of sources and develop their own perspective.

Learning Goal

What tigers are doing at school..
Scientists will be exploring gravity through a variety of different experiences and tests. They will also research gravity to learn more about the experiences they have had to make connections between the two of them. After they have a basic understanding of the phenomena they will then create their own working model that demonstrates that gravity is always pulling things toward the earth.
What tigers could be doing at home...
Continue building on knowledge by dialoguing with household members about all the things that each person already knows, or is learning, about gravity; share glows (what went well) and grows (what could be improved) about the experiments conducted in class.
