Dear Kindergarten Families,
We ended the week with a beautiful celebration of friendship. Thank you for making it extra special with the thoughtful treats, creative cards, and your kindness. A HUGE shoutout to everyone who helped, the kids had an absolute blast! It has been so heartwarming to see them continue to show empathy, care, and friendship toward one another.
In Writing Workshop, students began writing their own “How-To” books. Over the weekend, you can support this work by having your child explain the steps of an activity you do together (for example: how to make a sandwich, how to brush your teeth, or how to play a game). Encouraging them to say each step in order will greatly support their writing development.
In Phonics, we launched a new unit called “Vowel Power.” Students explored the vowel shield and were introduced to two new snap words: how and you. Keep practicing these at home in fun and playful ways!
In Math, students are comparing objects by length and continuing to practice addition and subtraction within 10.
Friendly Reminder: Student-Led Conferences will take place on Wednesday, February 25th. Please check your sign-up sheet for your scheduled time.
Looking forward to another great week together!

Learning Goal
ELA: Writers can write labels in their pictures.
Phonics: Students will be combining super powers to read sentences.
ELA: Writers will be learning that by adding labels to their pictures they can provide more information in their "How to books", and also to work on writiting many books as they can.
Phonics: Students will be writing sentences with short A and short I. They will learn that when they want to write a word, it helps to say each sound in the word, listen for the vowel, and then think, "Which vowel makes that sound?". They will also be learning two new snap words: how & you.
ELA: Continue talking at home about the step of how to do something. Examples: How to get dressed, How to ride a bike, How to make a sandwich. Have the kids repeat the steps after you. Rember to use the words First, then, last.
Phonics: Students can sing to the song "What Are All The Sounds You Hear" and make sure they listen to all the sound they hear in the words: sag, rid, ham, sick, pin, mat, lap, pin, fin.
Learning Goal
Learning Goal
Measure and compare objects using different tools.
Recognize pennies and nickels
Count by 5s and understand 10 = 5 + 5
Estimating and measuring objects with craft sticks and cubes
Comparing which unit measures longer or shorter
Playing “Which Coin Will Win?” with pennies and nickels
Counting by 5s and graphing results to see which coin wins
What mathematicians could be practicing at home...
Measure toys or books with blocks or spoons and compare
Practice estimating first
Identify pennies and nickels
Count nickels by 5s to 10
Make a simple tally or graph to see which coin wins
Learning Goal
I can show how pushing and pulling make things move.
Scientists will explore how pushing and pulling can move objects and explain the difference using simple words and actions. Key Vocabulary:
push, pull, move, stop, fast, slow (Use gestures and actions every time you say the words)
Ask your child to push the toy across the floor.
Say: “I am pushing the toy.”Ask your child to pull the toy back toward them.Say: “I am pulling the toy.”put the toy in the box or basket.Push the box away Pull the box back Try pushing softly and hard.Ask: “Which one went faster?”
Learning Goal
Relationship Skills: Communicating Effectively
In this lesson, tigers will develop attentive listening skills by first determining if students in example situations are being good listeners, and then practicing good listening in buddy pairs.
Make these reflection questions: How were you being a good listener with your buddy? Why is it good to pay attention with our bodies? How does being a good listener in class help everyone?
