Dear Kindergarten Families,
What a wonderful week of learning and fun! Thank you to all the families who joined us for Family Fun Day, your presence made it extra special.
This week, Kindergarteners were so excited to take their yearbook pictures in cap and gown! In Writing, students learned how to revise their work by adding more details to their stories. In Phonics, they continued strengthening their phonological awareness skills. In Math, we introduced a new workplace and practiced using important math vocabulary: greater than, less than, and equal to. We also launched our very first Expedition lesson on Colors, Lines, and Shapes, where students will begin exploring how artists use these elements to express ideas.
Important Information:
-Stepping Stones pamphlet please return every Monday in the green folder.
-Group C continues with swimming until Oct 17th
-Make sure your child eats a good breakfast before school, as lunch is at 10:10 a.m.
-Please have your child bring an ANS sweater labeled with their name, as it may get cold inside the classroom.
-Croc-style shoes are not permitted in school.
-Toys should remain at home, as they are not allowed at school.
-Please remember to send in a family picture (digital or printed).
Learning Goal
ELA: Readers will learn the Reading workshop routine to begin our first reading unit.
Phonics: Students' phonemic awareness and letter recognition through tracing letters, singing the alphabet song, and forming simple words.
ELA: Writers are going to celebrate that their first writing unit is done. After the celebration students are going to set up the reading workshop routine.
Phonics: The students trace the letters W, G, Q and Y. Also they sing the alphabet song. They actively listen for additional sounds and incorporate more letters into their labels. We introduce new snap words I, Like and My, and engage in forming new words. Each letter has its unique sound, and the students enjoy the process of learning to write and recognize them while participating in singing and interactive activities.
ELA: At home students are encoraged to keep writing about something they love and add labels to teach others with the sounds they hear. Ask them about what they learned 1. how to be a writer ?and 2. how to be a book-maker.?
Phonics: Choose a letter: W, G, Q, or Y, and find three items around your house that start with that letter. For example, for "W," you might look for a wallet, water bottle, and window; for "G," find a game, gift, and grapes; for "Q," look for a quilt, queen toy, and quarter; and for "Y," search for yogurt, a yellow crayon, and a yo-yo. Share your items with your family and explain how each one starts with your letter. Have fun!
Learning Goal
Learning Goal
We are learning to see, build, and talk about numbers with ten-frames and number racks.
-Using two-color ten-frames to show numbers in different ways (e.g., 3 red + 2 yellow = 5)
-Building and exploring their own number racks
-Practicing showing numbers with dot cards + number racks
-Playing math games at Work Places to grow number sense
-Use two colors of objects (crayons, blocks, snacks) to make numbers in different ways
-String or line up 10 beads/cereal pieces and practice sliding them like a number rack
-Flash fingers quickly and have your child say the number
-Put out small groups of items and ask: “How many? Can you show it a different way?”
Learning Goal
Students will express their emotions through self-portraits using creative techniques to build emotional awareness and relationship skills.
Students created family portraits using various materials and shared personal stories about their family members. They also participated in writing activities where they expressed their preferences by listing things they like and things they don’t like.
At home, students can create family portraits using any materials they have, write or talk about things they like and don’t like, and share special stories about their family.
Learning Goal
Self awareness: Recognizing my emotions.
In this unit, students learn the importance of being their best selves. They will learn to recognize their own emotions and those of others; link emotions and thoughts; connect emotions, thoughts, and actions; regulate their emotions; and have a growth mindset.
Promote conversations using questions such as: How can you recognize your emotions? How can you recognize others emotions? How can you connect your thoughts and actions to what you feel?
