Our first week of school was a blast! We would like for you to meet our new enthusiastic and curious students at ANS: Gerard, Adrian, Saskia, and Kai.
What We’ve Been Up To:
1. Getting to Know Each Other
We introduced ourselves and we talked about our hobbies. It’s amazing to discover that most of us talked about similar hobbies and interests.
2. Setting Up Our Classroom Rules
We discussed what makes a classroom a safe and happy place to learn. Together, we created our class rules, focusing on respect, responsibility, and kindness. The students did an awesome job contributing their ideas and perspectives!
3. Introduction to Our Subjects
Reading: We started our class read-aloud with a fun and engaging story that we’ll be using to practice making predictions and asking questions. Moving forward, we are now working on building our reading stamina in the classroom and at home.
Math: We reviewed basic addition and subtraction facts to get back into the math mindset. We also explored the number of the day where we recalled some concepts that we learned in second grade. We will continue strengthening our understanding of number sense and place value.
Science: The students will begin their first unit on “Ants." We will be exploring the ants’ different behavioral patterns for survival. Mr. Kittles will take our students on a journey around the classrooms to observe ants movements and behavior.
Learning Goal
Readers will be working on setting up a system to help them keep track of their reading goals and to share with a partner about the books they are reading.

Learning Goal
Students will explore how and why ants work together as a group in order to help all of the members of a colony survive, students will begin by making observations and using inquiry to learn more about how ants work together for the survival of the Ant colony.
Young scientists will continue to observe ants at home applying the scientific process they learn from their OWL class.
Learning Goal
Friends and learners will get to know each other and feel valued as individuals and members of the group.
Friends and learners will be learning about emotional strategies and practicing tiger goals to have a respectful and safe environment in our classroom.
