Dear 5th grade parents,
The fifth-grade students were excited to celebrate Thanksgiving Week, and we wanted to take the opportunity to express our heartfelt gratitude to you, the parents. Thank you for your support in coordinating and providing snacks—your willingness to help us celebrate this special tradition was truly amazing! Thank you so much for being part of this meaningful celebration for all of us! As a quick reminder, please remember students should not bring toys to school. We want them to fully engage in their learning throughout the day. Happy Thanksgiving! we wish you safe travels and a joyful time.
Learning Goal
Readers will write about informational reading to help them think deeply about the texts they are reading. They will use their notebooks as a tool to think about reading and keep track of sources.
-Write to understand what they are learning as they read.
-Revise their writing about reading with main ideas in mind.
-Think about what kind of writing about reading they could do about their texts that would help them better explain information to themselves.
-Study the Webb’s Depth of Knowledge Questions and use this tool to strengthen their research.-Set up plans to study a second text.
-Ask questions at a variety of levels.
-Study their questions, reflect and set goals.
-Synthesize information across subtopics, both within a single text and across texts.
Readers are encouraged to continue researching about their inquiry topics, take notes, and keep track of sources they use (books, articles, documentaries, etc).

Explore conversions within a given system of measurement, and then extend the strategies they develop to making metric conversions
5th grade mathematicians will describe strategies for converting measurements within the metric system. They will participate in a problem string that reinforces some of the place value patterns they have been practicing over the past several sessions. Lastly, they will also complete Unit 4 Screener.

Learning Goal
Students analyzed the Declaration of Independence's grievances and constructed arguments on how it supports independence, presenting and sharing their research to demonstrate their understanding.
Our fifth-grade historians celebrated the end of their Social Studies unit with an engaging and collaborative activity. They presented and shared their research on the grievances outlined in the Declaration of Independence and worked diligently to craft arguments. This activity showcased their hard work, critical thinking, and dedication. We are incredibly proud of their commitment and the effort they put into this meaningful unit!
Learning Goal
We will learn to recognize that each person has diverse strengths, interests, and skills to contribute to the class by doing a group talent show. This diversity contributes to a fun and successful place to learn and grow.
Identify my and others’ special skills, interests, and experiences that are unique and valuable.
Contribute my strengths and let others contribute theirs.
Identify why diversity is important.
If your family members filled out the Awesome Me, Awesome Us Activity Sheet, what might you learn about the diverse contributions each person makes to the family? How can you show your family that you appreciate each person’s uniqueness?
