1st Grade News
Dear Tiger Parents,
This is such an exciting time of year for the kids! Our Halloween Celebration was so much fun! The kids all had a blast and looked amazing in their costumes! During math, the kids have been excited to share their strategies to add with sums this time with red and white beans. Another mathematical focus this week has been exploring the idea of doubles, using our powerful number racks to demonstrate that even numbers can be arranged as equal halves with matching rows.
🏠At home, you can practice even and odd numbers with a calendar, you could have your kid tell you each day if the number of the day was odd or even. You could mark it or indicate it somehow on your calendar as well.
Keep your kids reading! They are moving along and we want to keep that momentum going! In our class, we celebrate the work readers have done across the unit by asking children to name all they learned to do as word detectives. As a team, teacher and students worked together, discussing the details of the reading strategies so far, and working on improvements and extra details. There is no doubt that in first grade, we are strong readers and strong leaders. Your dedication has not gone unnoticed, and we greatly appreciate your commitment to fostering a culture of support and encouragement. “Student Led Conferences” are coming up in November, see you soon!
With sincere appreciation, 🐯💚

Additionally, students will be guided in a series of exercises to help them reinforce their snap word retention.
What readers & writers could be doing at home...
