Dear Parents fifth grade parents,
We are excited to announce that student led conferences are just around the corner! This is a wonderful opportunity for students to showcase what they have learned in school and demonstrate their academic growth and learning experiences.
Please see the sign up sheet here, so you can choose the time that works best for you to attend the SLC. Additionally, we want to let you know that the students will be starting a new Social Studies unit named "Declaration of Independence."
Best regards,
Learning Goal
Students will showcase their personal narratives.
Students will start a new unit which focuses on studying ways in which nonfiction texts become more complex.
-Use technology tools to show their writing pieces.
-Celebrate their growth as readers by reading their stories to other 5th grade peers and providing feedback while reflecting on the techniques they have used in their narratives , and how they continue growing as writers.
-Brainstorm what matters in a nonfiction text.
-Approach nonfiction texts with extra alertness.
-Notice main ideas and their support.
-Discuss about the things it pays off for nonfiction readers to think about.
Students are encouraged to read daily for 45 minutes, and annotate any technique they notice in the books they are reading. We recommend asking and answering the discussion questions we sent in the progress monitoring letters.
Learning Goal
Learning Goal
Students will read and write decimals to hundredths using base ten numerals and number names.
Students will solve problems using money notation and consider the place value patterns that emerge when multiplying and dividing decimal numbers by 10. Students will use a calculator to predict and record the results of multiplying and divinding by 10. Students will use base ten area pieces to represent different decimal numbers.
Check Google Classroom.
Learning Goal
Students will learn why do countries declare independence.
How does the Declaration of Independence make an argument for independence?
Research about why do countries declare independence?
Learning Goal
Our emotions, thoughts, and actions are all connected. By paying attention to our emotions and thoughts, we can change the way we think and feel and the actions we take. In this lesson, we will create two comics, one in which we think unhelpfully and one in which we think helpfully.
Recognize that my emotions, thoughts, and actions are connected and happen in response to situations in my life.
Change the way I respond—think, feel, and act—to the same situation.
Understand why someone else may have a different response to a situation than I do
Create a “reminder to be mindful”—write a little phrase or question that you can tell yourself when you find that you haven’t checked in with your emotions lately. For example, you might use the question, “What’s going on up there, brain?”
