3rd Grade News
Dear Parents,
We are delighted to witness our Third Graders managing their time wisely in all the learning disciplines. In reading, our young readers are excited exploring and navigating the story plot and they use their knowledge to monitor the events across the story. They have been investigating ways to develop deeper theories about the characters. In addition, they are now using text evidence to validate their theories.
Our young mathematicians have been exploring number sense, patterns, and number relationships e.g. 9 x 7 is the same as 9 x 5 + 9 x 2. We introduce friendly numbers such as 2, 5, 10, 100 to make math learning fun, explorative, and inquiry by navigating efficient strategies.
In Science, we observe ants movements (like walking in a line) and behavior to create generalizations about ants’ survival, adaptation, and their relationship to the environment.
Notas importantes:

Weekly Learning Goals & Tasks
English Literacy
Learning Goal
What readers & writers are doing at school...
Readers will follow the main character's journey by engaging with the plot and constructing a story mountain. They will observe how the character faces their major challenges and analyze the lessons the character learns. Additionally, readers will notice how all the story elements come together to form the entire story.
What readers & writers could be doing at home...
Spanish Literacy
Learning Goal

What readers & writers are doing at school...
En la semana se celebrarán las Fiestas Patrias. Los estudiantes aprenderán sobre la batalla de San Jacinto y los símbolos patrios.
What readers & writers could be doing at home...
En casa los alumnos pueden leer sobre la Independencia de Nicaragua y escribir un poema a la Patria.
Mathematics
Learning Goal
Friendly numbers as a skill to help when adding double digit numbers.
What mathematicians are doing at school...
Mathematicians will use number strings as series of related problems purposefully sequenced to help students construct mathematical relationships so that powerful strategies become their natural instincts. This will be used to identify friendly numbers when adding double digit numbers.
What mathematicians could be doing at home...
Talk about friendly numbers, think about numbers that can help you solve 2 digit equations. 10 more, 20 more. This week our Home conecctions are: pg 13 & 14
Science or Social Studies
Learning Goal
What tigers are doing at school...
Create a model of an ant and create a labelled ant colony using resources such as egg trays, milk cartons, paper mache, and pipe cleaners. In this project they will be presenting the life cycle of an ant, their adaptation, teamwork, and communication.
What tigers could be doing at home...
Talk about why ants are important in the environment. What are their contributions?
Social Emotional Learning Program
Learning Goal
Friends and learners will discover that there are things they do and do not know about their classmates and that finding these things out is how we discover what we have in common with each other and can do together—even when we seem very different.
What friends and learners are doing at school...
Sometimes we don’t realize we have things in common because we don’t take the time to talk to each other and find out how we are the same and how we are different. Friends and learners will work with partners to find out more about what we have in common playing the commonalities gameboard.
What friends and learners could be practicing at home...
