Dear Tiger Parents,
First graders are putting their skills to the test everyday when reading and writing. They are looking closely at words, discovering long vowel sounds in words and noticing the work the silent- e does. They are always on the lookout for imposters that don't follow the rule. Mathematicians are using strategies to solve addition and subtraction problems such as; counting for a larger number, doubles plus or minus one. See you later at the Fall Festival!
Learning Goal
Reading: When reading gets tough, Persevere, using all your strategies. Phonics: Focus on studying what you have learned about CVCe words with the vowel “I” and "U"to read many new words.
Reading: This week readers will learn to persevere and continue to read. They will make predictions and then confirm or revise them. We will begin to read and make sure to spot words with double consonants and split them into smaller words to make them easier to read. Always make sure to use all the strategies we can to read.
Phonics: Readers and writers will study CVCe words with the vowel “I” that usually make a long sound, and that they can use this knowledge to help them read many new words. Word detectives will also experiment decoding unfamiliar CVCe words with U.
Reading: Reading isn't easy, but your child needs to make sure they can overcome the productive struggle. Work together using all the skills, in this Anchor chart to read this book, "Bonk and the Lucky Buckeye".Make sure to have your child read, stop when the story gets interesting, and have your child make a prediction of what will happen next, then confirm or revise that prediction as you read along.
Phonics: "Times of the day"Use this book for you to find words with the vowel “I'' that usually make a long sound, Example: "Kite" Good Habits for Solving Hard Words
