Dear 1st Grade Families,
As we approach the end of November, We want to share some exciting updates about the amazing learning happening in our classroom. Our Tigers have been hard at work, growing their skills and curiosity every day!
In writing, they are becoming experts at creating teaching books. It’s inspiring to see how they choose topics they know a lot about and add rich details to share their knowledge with others.
In science, we’ve been diving into the fascinating world of birds. The students are learning how different birds build their nests and exploring the creativity and skill involved in their construction. Their enthusiasm for nature is truly heartwarming!
As we celebrate Thanksgiving, we want to take a moment to express our gratitude for your continued support in your child’s learning journey. Together, we’re building a love of learning that will last a lifetime.
Wishing you and your family a joyful and restful Thanksgiving holiday!
Warm regards,
Learning Goal
Writing: Students will write information books about their special objects of study.
Phonics: Relate and apply what you know about reading all the way across words and know common ways that words end. With that knowledge and with a peek at the first letter of an ending, students can guess what the ending might be and then check their guesses as they read on
Writing: Students will start by writing a “How to Use” page, and then progress to making other pages, all about the object they have been studying.
Phonics: Readers and writers will explore how important it is to read all the way across words and know common ways that words end. With that knowledge and with a peek at the first letter of an ending, you can guess what the ending might be and then check your guesses as you read on.
Writing: Take a look at the text “How to Use a Stapler”. Now ask your mom or dad about his or her favorite object for you to get ideas on how to use it like an expert too.
Phonics: Use what we practice about "Common Word Endings” to read the book “Black and White”. Now from the book, get examples of those endings.
Write them in your homework notebook (Reading Response).

The object needs to fit into a small lunch bag. The most important thing is that kids value their objects enough to want to tell others about them in their writing.
