Dear Kindergarten Families,
Thank you all so much for joining us at our Student-Led Conferences! Our Tigers were thrilled to showcase their skills and share their learning journey with you. Remember, we still have Student-Led Conferences on Monday, November 18th. It will be a regular school day, so please double-check your child’s class section and time.
In English Literacy this week, we began our new writing unit, Writing for Readers. During phonics, students practiced listening closely to sounds in words, learning to stretch and record each sound from beginning to end. They also added three new snap words to their vocabulary: this, is & here.
Our second unit in Expeditions, From Seed to Plant, is off to a fantastic start! The children are excited to learn all about the stages of growth from tiny seeds to fully grown plants.
Important Information:
-Group B (Group D --> Chart) continues swimming until Nov 22nd.
-Monday Nov 18th - Student Led Conferences - Regular School Day (Big Questions Day)
Thursday Nov 28th & Friday Nov 29th - Thanksgiving Holiday - NO SCHOOL
Learning Goal
ELA: Writers can write beginning and powerful ending to their stories.
Phonics: Word scientists can use snap words to add longer labels to their writing
ELA: Writers are going to be learning that they are brave spellers, and can stretch the sounds of the words to add more sounds, they are going to be learning how to write transition words to begin a new page and adding a strong feeling at the end of their stories.
Phonics: Word scientists are going to be learning new snap words an in and it. They are going to be writing sentences to practice snap words.
ELA: At home writers can practice writing stories here is a writing paper for you to print and make a three-pages booklet.
Phonics: Pratice all the snap words at home, you can follow "How to learn a word" chart
Learning Goal
Learning Goal
Students will continue to grow their number sense, doubles and building quantities to 20.
Mathematicians will continue to work on counting by 2's, making pairs and recognizing if they are a double (even) or not. They will be exposed to decomposing numbers less than or equal to 10 into pairs in more than one way.
Students can gather groups of objects around the house. Arrange them in pairs and determind if it is a double or not.
Learning Goal
Scientists will observe and record information about bird needs, create models of bird nests and food, design a mini book to illustrate their understanding, and share their ideas with the class.
Scientists have been busy learning about what birds need to survive. On Day 1, they used modeling clay to build bird nests, thinking about the materials birds use in nature, like twigs and grass. On Day 2, they added food for the birds, creating shapes to represent seeds, berries, and insects. They also created mini books about bird needs, practicing simple sentences like "Birds need food" and "Birds drink water." Afterward, the scientists shared their mini books with the class, discussing the importance of food, water, and shelter for birds.
Scientists can create a "bird's meal" using small objects from around the house. They can use things like cereal, rice, dried pasta, or paper cutouts to represent seeds, berries, or insects. After gathering their materials, they will create a plate or small tray of "bird food" to show what birds might eat. They can then draw a picture of a bird eating the food they’ve made.
Learning Goal
Friends will name and demonstrate ways to get calm.
In this lesson, friends will role-play strategies to get calm in situations where they may experience strong emotions.
Structure a space at home to be a "relaxation station". Have this zone for learners so they know where to go to feel safe as they choose an activity to get calm.
