Dear Kindergarten Families,
Another wonderful week has gone by, and the students have been busy learning many new things! In reading workshop, they learned that after reading a book with a partner, they can have a little "book talk." During these discussions, they share "wow" pages and add their own thoughts to the book. In phonics, students worked with picture cards to identify sounds and locate the correct letters on the alphabet chart. We also introduced three new snap words: at, look, and see.
In math, our young mathematicians have been learning different ways to show their understanding, using tools like ten frames, finger patterns, number racks, and tally marks.
During expeditions, the ANS Communications and Marketing Department visited our class to share how they use colors, lines, and shapes in the creation of the school emblem.
On Thursday October 31st, children are welcomed to come dressed up in their halloween costume (no knives, swords allowed) and bring a snack to share with their classmates.
NOTE: The BIG Questions Day Team (Innovation Studio) need your help: If you would like to donate any recycled materials (plastic bottles & caps, cardboard boxes (small to medium size), toilet and/or paper rolls, fabric scraps, empty jars or containers, etc) please send them to your homeroom teacher.
Thank you for your continued support!
Learning Goal
ELA: Readers read story books using exact character words, and matching what they with every page.
Phonics: Students recognize and write high-frequency words, enhancing their understanding of word structure and letter sounds.
ELA: Readers are going to start bend 2 of our reading unit, they are going to be learning how to read story books they know by heart, using exact character words and using connecting (First, after, then, at the end) words to put storybook pages together.
Phonics: students will focus on recognizing high-frequency words like "at," "look," and "see," using the "How to Learn a Word" anchor chart and prepare word cards. They will practice writing these words on whiteboards and engage with the "Our Snap Words" pocket chart. Through activities like "Guess the Picture" and syllable clapping, they will enhance their understanding of word structure while using various alphabet charts for support.
ELA: At home read familiar storybooks (Little Red Riding Hood, Corduroy, Goldilock and the Three Bears...) again and again and then have your child read the same book to you using exact character words.
Phonics: Students can do a Snap Word Hunt. Create a list of snap words (like "at," "look," and "see") and have students search around the house for objects that represent these words (e.g., a toy to "see" or a book to "look"). They can write down or draw pictures of the items they find next to the corresponding snap words.
Learning Goal
Juego
Learning Goal
Students will compose and decompose shapes
Students will be exploring shapes and patterns. They will discuss the attributes of squares and make simple patchwork blocks and buttefly blocks. They will assemble them an create an ABAB pattern.
Students are encouraged to find patterns around their environment.
Learning Goal
Students understand community values and the importance of rules. Through interactive discussions, they will learn about fairness and responsibility. This aims to foster critical thinking about their roles in the community.
The students have been exploring community values at a "rule station," using figurines and a large map. They engage with a two-sided board showing scenarios of following versus breaking rules, acting them out with dolls. In a cozy reading corner, they read picture books about unfair rules and jot down their thoughts. This setup fosters important discussions about rules, fairness, and their roles in the community
Students can create an "My Community Rules" art project. They will draw a picture of a community scene, such as a playground or school, and then write or dictate a few rules that keep that place safe and enjoyable, like "Share toys" or "Listen to adults." Once completed, display their artwork prominently at home to celebrate their understanding of community values and rules.
Learning Goal
Friends will reflect about how rules can make a community safe.
In school, friends will reflect on the purpose of rules and how they can shape a fair, respectful and kind environment. Describe how rules help people work together safely and fairly in communities. They will think and draw rules to feel safe with their friends.
Disscuss these questions: What rules would you make to keep everyone safe and happy in the family? What happens when people follow or don’t follow rules? How does it make others feel?
