Dear Parents,
It is with great pleasure and pride to inform you that third graders are excited to begin working on their summative assessment in Literacy that focuses on writing an information text about their chosen animal of study. They had been exploring different subtopics during their research club sessions. They were able to explore the different text structures and they will use these structures to document their learning and discoveries. Parents will be invited to this celebration which will occur in the last week of January.
To support your child, please connect with her/him by having a conversation about his/her animal of study. Your child should be able to share interesting facts/information about their animals. For the presentation, the students will need a display board. Please send it on Monday, Jan. 20th, so they can start preparing for that important day.
In mathematics, we will be inquiring about liquid volume, estimating and measuring using milliliters and liters, solving story problems involving the four operations of volume measurements. We encourage you to use the math vocabulary related to liquids e.g. milliliters, liters, and cups at home. How much liquid should we drink? How much in milliliters? Liters? How many milliliters is a cup?
In Science, we are embarking on the unit’s key concepts: causation, change, and responsibility (impacts of big farms on nature, ecosystems, society, and the environment. Conversations revolve around sustainability of resources and wellbeing of the environment). Students will be guided into identifying informed choices in relation to the protection of the natural resources and the environment
Learning Goal
Our readers will utilize three different text structures to present the animals they have been researching. The students will reflect on a problem that these animals are facing in the world and brainstorm possible solutions to help them survive.
Learning Goal
Learning Goal
Estimation of mass, liquid Volume and length.
WIth new work places, measurment story related problems and 2 mth forums, students will have hands on experience in estimating mass, liquid volume and lengths.
Home Connections
Tuesday Jan 21 pg 67-68 Metric Measures of Mass and Liquid Volume
Thursday Jan 23 pg 69-70 Grasshopper Math
Learning Goal
Scientists will explore the impact of big farms on nature, society, ecosystems, and on planet earth. In addition, they will also unpack the central idea "Farms and ecosystems are interconnected systems that support life by providing resources and maintaining balance."
