Learning Goal
Readers will begin a new cycle of work, researching the same topic but analyzing more texts and generating their own questions.
Argument and Advocacy session 8
Prepare for and have a debate to find new ways of thinking and gain new insights into that issue.
Reflect on what they learned through arguing, and raise new questions, insights and ideas. Annotate texts in purposeful and deliberate ways as they read to facilitate evidence-based conversations about the text.
Recognize difficult texts and draw on their own portfolio of strategies to help them manage the difficulty, approaching this work with a strong sense of agency.
Readers are encouraged to use a reading log to track their stamina and volume. By writing down the title, pages, or time spent reading, they can see their progress and feel proud of their hard work. Setting small goals will help them read more each day and improve their reading skills. The more they track, the easier it gets, and the more fun reading will become!

Learning Goal
Showing empathy and supporting our friends and classmates is critical to having a positive classroom environment. In this lesson, we will play a game where we think about each other’s perspectives and ways we can show empathy and support.a
State what empathy and support are, and why they are important.
Use clues that you see in others to understand their perspectives.
Show empathy and support to my classmates, even if my perspective is different.
Think back to your responses about empathy actions. What are your personal empathy strengths? How can you find more opportunities to use them?
