Dear families,
Fifth graders had an enriching learning experience delivering their final presentations to 4th graders. They prepared and presented with great enthusiasm. We celebrate their effort, and commitment towards their learning. Their collaboration and engagement was highly remarkable. Thank you for all the discussions you had at home about the use of social media. Next week, we will start a new Science unit. We look forward to exploring environmental stewardship together.
Learning Goal
Students will gather entries and choose one to develop it into a major piece of writing. They will progress through the writing process while lifting the level of their work.
They will transfer and draw upon skills they developed earlier.
Study a mentor text and ask ‘What has this author done that I might try, too?
Climb into the shoes of the character and almost experience the episode as they write.
Review and revise their entries.
Bring their writing to the workbench and improve it by taking lessons from a mentor text.
Continue drawing upon techniques for raising the level of narrative writing.
Thinking about how an author they admire structures a story.
Build rising tension in their stories.
Compare two writing samples and decide which one is more effective.
Notice the way a published author uses true details to evoke an emotion.
Focus on a specific part of their stories and call to mind some of the specific images associated with that part.
Ensure secondary characters play a role in the story’s overall meaning.
Readers are encouraged to read daily for at least 45 minutes, and use their reading log to keep track of their reading volume and stamina.

Learning Goal
Students will apply skills to solve real-world problems.
Students will find equivalencies using clock models and money. Students will find the cost of various amounts using ratio tables. Stuedents will find quivalent fractions to add and subtract.
Check your Google Classroom.
Learning Goal
Students will look at the steps they need to take in order to organize and execute an experiment about plant needs. We will discuss materials, seeds and different variables they can use in order to organize and run their own experiments.
Discuss the components of an experiment. Generate a list of substrates, types of seeds and data they could collect during their own experiments. Plan out their experiment independently or with a partner. Setting up their experiments and then completing their first journal entry about how they set it up and what variables they plan to use.
We encourage students to observe living organisms they have at home, particularly plants.
Learning Goal
We are conducting a student survey to better understand our students' perspectives. This survey will help us learn how your child feels and how we can improve our support for them. The honest answers provided will guide us in enhancing the school environment for everyone, reflecting the overall social and learning climate at our school.
Thank you for encouraging your child to share their thoughts. Their voice is important in shaping a better experience for all.
