Dear families,
This week has been an exciting one in second grade! Your children have been working hard in science exploring materials that are used to make different objects and the properties of those materials. In literacy, they have been learning how to keep track of longer books by focusing on the main character and problem. In phonics, they have been showing their word builders skills by spelling long, tricky words. In math, they have been measuring objects in the classroom using different tools and units of measurement. It's wonderful to see how much they are learning every day. Thank you for your support at home!
Learning Goal
Readers will learn that characters learn lessons. They also ask and answer questions around the story.
In Phonics; the students are learning the Build It! Spell It! process for bigger, longer and more complex words. They need to count the syllables, check for vowels in each part, use words they know and ask themselves "Does it look right?". In Reading we will learn that as readers come to an end of a book they don't just toss the book aside and grab the next one. Instead they pause to retell and reflect on what the character has learned.
For Phonics; the students should practice reading and spelling the Snap Words begin, before, and great. In Reading Tigers will read for 25 minutes and during the reading time they will ask and asnwer questions around the parts they read.
Learning Goal
¿Cómo me hace sentir a mí?
Learning Goal
Next week, Mathematicians will be exploring measurement concepts, discovering that the size of the unit of measurement impacts the number of units necessary to measure a given object.
Find different objects around your house and measure them in yards, inches and feet.

Learning Goal
Standing up for the rights of myself and others
In this lesson, learners will gain understanding of what it means to be fair. They will share ideas for how to respond with empathy and support others when unfair behaviors occur.
When unfair behavior occurs, point out the behavior and guide the kids involved in ways to resolve the issue.
