Dear Kindergarten Families,
It's been a week of learning and fun! The kids absolutely enjoyed dressing up in their favorite costumes, trick-or-treating, and sharing a snack with the 1st graders.
In reading this week, students have been learning about choosing favorite storybooks and discovered how to use precise words to retell their stories. In Phonics, students are applying their knowledge of letters, sounds, and the alphabet to write in ways others can understand. Our mathematicians were introduced to a new workplace activity, the "Pattern Block Puzzle," where they continue to explore shapes and patterns.
SAVE THE DATE - Student Led Conferences are coming up on Wednesday November 13th and Monday November 18th, please click on your corresponding class section and sign up for a time slot.
Important Information:
-Please bring a stuffed animal on Monday, November 4th for Phonics Celebration
-Today was KA last day for swimming on Monday November 4th - KB starts swimming (Group D --> Chart)
-Thursday November 7th- Donuts with Dad or Loved Ones from 6:45am - 7:30am
-Wednesday November 13th & Monday November 18th - Student Led Conferences on Nov 13th -NO SCHOOL on Nov 18th regular school day.
Learning Goal
ELA: Readers use the repeating parts in books to help them story tell.
Phonics: Improve vocabulary and comprehension by using context clues, collaborating with peers, and creating a "word wall" that showcases new words and their meanings.
ELA: Readers are going to be learning how they can use parts that repeat a lot in books for them to retell de story to their partners, and also they will start to focus on the setting to tell more about the story.
Phonics: Students engage in activities that enhance their vocabulary and comprehension skills by exploring context clues to understand new words and collaborating in discussions. They create sentences using vocabulary words and share them with peers. Additionally, students participate in word sorting activities to categorize words by their characteristics and develop a "word wall," illustrating and defining new words to reinforce their learning and connections in writing.
ELA: At home have kids retell a familiar story books focusing on the setting of the story
Phonics: fun at-home activity, students will create their own mini "word wall" using a poster board or large sheet of paper. They can choose 5-10 new words they’ve encountered recently—these can come from books, conversations, or even their favorite shows.
Learning Goal
Escribir un libro para nuestra bibliteca del aula
En esta semana los escritores continuan escribiendo libros, esta vez para la biblioteca del aula. Escriben etiquetas y oraciones utilizando palabras frecuentes (Mi, Un, Una, El, La, Soy, Me gusta, Fui, mamá, papá).
En casa pueden leer cuento dónde se utilicen palabras frecuentes Como en los ejemplos. Libro con palabras frecuentes 1 Libro de palabras frecuentes 2
Learning Goal
Students will deepen their understanding of numbers and patterns by reviewing core skills, celebrating growth, and expanding foundational math concepts.
Mathematicians will revisit and celebrate what they’ve learned about numbers, patterns, and shapes. They will practice counting, matching numerals, and identifying shapes. Students will also work in small groups to create pattern projects using the ABAB pattern and discuss the attributes of basic shapes like squares and triangles.
Parents are encouraged to review counting skills with students by counting objects around the house up to 10. Create simple ABAB patterns together using household items (such as silverware or toys) to reinforce patterning skills. Additionally, practice identifying shapes in your surroundings, such as finding squares in windows or rectangles in doors, to reinforce shape recognition.
Learning Goal
Students will develop an understanding of the importance of rules in fostering safety and inclusivity, while cultivating a sense of responsibility and community involvement in shaping a respectful learning environment.
Students will participate in a scavenger hunt across the school to explore different areas like the gymnasium, hallways, and art room, reflecting on specific rules that ensure safety and inclusivity. Following this, they will create their own signs or rules for the classroom using art supplies, promoting responsibility and respect. Finally, in a community council setting, students will discuss and suggest changes to existing rules, fostering a sense of community and encouraging open dialogue about inclusivity.
Students will create a colorful "Super Rule Poster" at home to showcase their favorite rule that keeps them safe and happy. They’ll think of themselves as "Rule Superheroes," highlighting the importance of their chosen rule.
Learning Goal
Friends will learn that people can feel and show emotions differently.
In this lesson, friends will use role-play to practice demonstrating clues to identify different emotions and to identify how they and others feel.
At home, discuss this questions as a family "What can you do to figure out how others are feeling?"
