Dear fifth grade families,

As we feel the cool breeze of our Christmas Holidays, we want to encourage our students to continue working on their set goals, it would be beneficial for them to work on Khan Academy, as well as reading purposely for 45 min each night. Thank you for your support in preparation for DALE, we want to take a moment to celebrate our students participation in their asigned committee. Regards,

Learning Goal

Readers will synthesize the information they have collected about their inquiry topics, prepare a research report and present their findings.

What readers & writers are doing at school...

-Read across subtopics, paying particular attention to how authors portray topics in similar and different ways.
-Compare and contrast the central ideas authors teach, and examine how authors teach those central ideas.
-Pay attention to an author’s perspective and how the author might be swaying readers to think, even when the author’s perspective is not implicit.
-Consider the trustworthiness of sources and develop their own perspective.
-Present their unique perspective on their research topic to other students.

What readers & writers could be doing at home...

Readers are encouraged to continue researching about their inquiry topics, take notes, and keep track of sources they use (books, articles, documentaries, etc).

What readers & writers are doing at school...

Los escritores editarán el ensayo informativo:
* Corregirán la escritura de palabras, uso de mayúsculas, tildar palabras según reglas ortográficas.
* Agregarán la puntuación: comas, puntos, signos de exclamación, signos de interrogación.
* Diseñarán las páginas de escritura para publicar el texto e ilustrarán.
Leerán diferentes textos informativos:
* Identificarán la I.P. e ideas secundarias.
* Identificarán las abreviaturas que aparecen en el texto y escribirán el significado de ellas.
* Recopilarán información para hacer un libro informativo corto.
