Dear families,

We are so excited for this first week of school! We have been spending our time getting to know each other, building and learning about our community of learners, developing routines, practicing transitions, and diving into academics. We look forward to a wonderful year working together to support your child's education. Thank you for your partnership and for being part of our fifth grade community.

Weekly Learning Goals & Tasks

English Literacy

Learning Goal

Readers will be self-assessing their performance and setting reading goals they might be working on immediately.
Readers will be be taking on the goal of getting better at reading, and working with deliberateness toward the specific goals they set.
Readers will be exploring and establishing what it means to write well about reading.

What readers & writers are doing at school...

Readers will read a short story and answer a few key questions that map onto key skills that will be taught during the unit.
Readers will engage students in making serious plans for a more thoughtful and mature reading life.
Readers will set goals for themselves as readers and create action plans.
Readers will participate in a gallery walk and make annotations.
Readers will fin in logs.
Readers will make suggestions for making this year’s reading workshop as powerful as possible

Readers are encouraged to read daily for at least 45 minutes.

Spanish Literacy

Learning Goal

Analizar lecturas de narrativas personales y lecturas seleccionadas.
Planificar la redacción de narrativa personal y cartas.

What readers & writers are doing at school...

Los estudiantes leerán diferentes lecturas seleccionadas.
Responderán de analisis literal, inferencial y crítico.
Observarán el uso correcto de ortografía, gramática y signos de puntuación en las lecturas.
Planificarán la redacción de una Narrativa Personal siguiendo el Proceso de Escritura aplicando los conocimientos ortográficos, gramaticales y signos de puntuación.

Learning Goal

Find and use relationships among facts through the doubling/halving strategy

What mathematicians are doing at school...

Mathematicians will take their first unit screener to set their Unit 1 Math goals. They will also start writing numerical expressions with parentheses.

Learn and explore about the structure and properties of matter.

What tigers are doing at school..

Scientist are going to be launching a new science unit about different states of matters. They will be guided through a variety of organized experiments to explore the structure and properties of different types of matter.

Investigate about the different states of matters.

Social Emotional Learning Program

Learning Goal

Friends and learners will get to know each other and feel valued as individuals and members of the group.

What friends and learners are doing at school..

Friends and learners will be learning about emotional strategies and practicing tiger goals to have a respectful and safe environment in our classroom.
