Dear parents,
Our readers have been working hard in their animal investigation. They used different text structures such as sequential, main idea and supporting details,
cause and effect, compare and contrast, and problem and solution. This unit culminates with their presentations. The students will have the opportunity to present a real-life situation that animals face and propose possible solutions to the problem. We invite you to attend your child’s research project on Friday 31st, from 1:45 to 2:25 pm.
This week, our mathematicians learned the difference between mass and weight. Then, the students used the pan balance scale to estimate, measure, and solve problems about mass. Mathematicians explored containers of different capacities and they solved problems about liquid volume and capacity. Please make sure your child practices telling the time at home. Here is the Interactive Clock.
In science, students will be looking at how food production on large farms is important to us in providing food, but it also destroys the natural habitat for animals that live in the environment around the farms.
Learning Goal
The students will celebrate the information they have learned, the ideas they've grown, and how they apply their learning to real-world problems. In their final presentation, they will teach their audience about the animals they have been studying. The students will focus on three text structures.
Learning Goal
Redacción de poemas.
Los escritores escribirán diferentes tipos de poemas inspirados en la naturaleza de Nicaragua.
En casa los escritores pueden escribir versos con rimas inpirados en la naturaleza.
Learning Goal
Students build on their knowledge of fractions from 1st & 2nd grade. They use fractional portions to unit fractions to develop knowledge on common fractions. Using manipulative to conceptualize their understanding.
Students share imaginary rectangle cookies which they fold into halves, thirds, fouths, sixths and eigths. They then compare and order unit fractions from largest to smallest and end in usingpattern blocks and divding them intosmaller portions to represent fractions.
Learning Goal
We continue to explore the unit using the knowlegde they gather from their research such as: balanced ecosystem, biodiversity, deforestation, informed choices, and agriculture.
Learning Goal
We will role-play scenarios and determine how someone is feeling and how to show empathy and ways we care.
Use clues to identify other people’s feelings and why they may feel that way.
Identify ways that I can show empathy and care.
Practice empathy to create a supportive and welcoming environment.
How did you encourage or support someone this week and how can you do a better job at encouraging and supporting others in the weeks to come?
