Dear 5th Grade Families,
This week has been filled with so much learning and excitement! Students experienced the Declaration of Independence hologram through VR headsets, which brought history to life in a truly engaging way. We’re also thrilled to see fifth graders analyzing the structure of nonfiction articles, a skill that is sure to enhance their comprehension and critical thinking.
Thank you for your continued support at home in ensuring they read for 45 minutes every day—it makes a significant difference in their growth!
Best regards,
Learning Goal
Readers will start gathering sources using the reading skills they have practiced to tackle print nonfiction texts.
-Reflect on their experiences conducting primary research, and compare that to researching in nonfiction books.
-Develop actionable plans for primary research.
-Share the progress they have made on their research action plan.
-Notice patterns and determine main ideas.
-Reread their research notes and look for additional main ideas that pop up across their notes.
Students are encouraged to read daily for 45 minutes, and annotate any important idea they find. Nonfiction texts are recommended for this unit.
Learning Goal
Agregar más información, detalles y datos al ensayo informativo.
Leer textos informativos variados.
Learning Goal
Students will use units of computer memory - bytes, kilobyes, megabytes and gigabytes - to explore conversions within a given system of measurement, and then extend the stategies they develop to making conversions. Students will also continue their work adding and subtracting decimals in a vertical format and developing story problems that involve decimals amounts.
Students explain patterns in the number of zeroes in the product when multiplying by powers of 10 and the placement of the decimal point when multiplying or dividing by powers of 10. Student compare pairs of decimals to thousandths. Students round decimals to the nearest one, tenth and hundredth. Students add and subtract decimals to hundredths, using concrete models or drawings and strategies based on place value, properties of operations, and the realtionship between addition and subtraction.

Learning Goal
Historians will continue examining declarations of independence from one or more Latin American countries and comparing them to the United States Declaration of Independence.
Historians will continue researching and examining a Latin American country's declaration of independence.
Research on a declaration of independence from another Latin American country.
Learning Goal
This unit will be about “Valuing Each Other.” We will explore what it means to value another person’s emotions, thoughts, and actions. We know that we can feel, think, and act differently than someone else and that is okay. We will also explore how to make sure everyone feels valued and included, to learn about others, and to stand up for others if they are treated unfairly.
Write down three things they are good at and value on the left side, with a plus sign in front of each activity.
Work with a partner and have them discuss what they picked as the things they are good at, what they value, and why. Ask students to write down their partner’s favorite activities or what they value about their partner on the right side, with a plus sign in front of each activity.
