Dear 1st Grade Families,
Another amazing week of classes in first grade. We are happy to see how our students strengthen their practices and habits of mathematicians and enjoy the challenges of “Add and subtract on the number line”. They have been developing problem-solving skills that are crucial for decision-making, critical thinking, and logical reasoning. In reading and writing our achievements shine bright like the sun because we are reading carefully, looking all the way through words in order to learn more snap words. Our Tigers were introduced to our New Unit" healthy living”. Students were so excited to learn and apply the knowledge they gain everyday. Definitely December is a moment of magical discoveries. They’re feeling confident, independent and eager to take on new challenges.
To celebrate everything we've accomplished together, we'll be having a special Holiday Breakfast! on Friday, December 13th in the classroom. Please sign up to collaborate.
Thank you for your continued support,
Learning Goal
Writing: Writers will learn elaboration techniques to add more, like asking questions the reader might have about their book, as well as editing. Phonics: Take time to study that some word endings like “ed” can sound more than one way. Explore how the letter “Y” can sound just like other letters, it can sound just like “long e” or “long i” at the end of a word.
Writing: Writers will take their time to share their information books with other writers, they will work together by adding more details about the topic, using fancy words that are related to their topic, and even using pictures to add more information for the reader. Phonics: Readers and writers will study that some word endings like “ed” can sound more than one way. On the other hand, the letter “Y” can sound just like other letters, it can sound just like “long e” or “long i” at the end of a word.
Writing: Writers should always use their checklists to ensure they add all the necessary details. Read this book "Why do Leaves Change Color" together, use the “Informative Writing - Checklist”, and ask if the writer is doing this, or if you should add more. Phonics: “The girl who learned to fly”. Use this book for you to find word endings like “ed” that can sound more than one way. Now say them aloud and write them in your homework notebook (Reading Response).“Common word endings".
