Dear Families of First Grade,
What an amazing week it has been. Trimester 2 is off to a great start. First grade Tigers have set great Learning and Tiger Trait goals. They continue to grow everyday. This weeks has a lot in store. Spanish Reading workshop and English Writing workshop are already off to a great start. Mathematicians will be using the number rack to compare two quantities to find the difference. (Subtraction). It was great to work together during SLC to set new goals for Trimester 2 for our Tigers. Our hands and eyes were very busy because we were working on observations related to “how a bird builds its nest.” We reflected on how the creation of a nest is important to the development of a baby bird. It is wonderful to watch our first graders as they expand their knowledge and learn new things!
Learning Goal
Writing: Students will notice a World of writing ideas right at their feet as they walk through the classroom with wands, and then use these topics to make several covers from some of the books they’ll write. Phonics: Relate and apply what you know about contractions and compound words to edit writing and reinforce your detective skills.
Writing: Writers will get ready to write information books. When they write every expert book, they need to remember that they are the experts. Phonics: Readers and writers will study that contractions are unusual words that are two words in disguise. They will look for compound words to fit together like puzzle pieces to make a new word.
Writing: Take a look at this non-fiction book "Dogs at Work“. and talk to your child about how the author teaches their reader by touching and teaching across the pages. Motivate and challenge your child: Get ideas, you look around and think, “This reminds me that I could write about …” Phonics: “Telling the truth”. Use this book for you to find compound words. Example: cup + cake = cupcake. Now write them in your homework notebook (Reading Response).Word detectives take an even closer look!
