Dear Families,
We're thrilled to update you on our current learning focus. Our students are actively solving subtraction story problems, mastering comparisons with unknowns in different positions. In addition, we're fostering crucial conversation skills—identifying behaviors that maintain or disrupt discussions, recognizing on-topic/off-topic responses, and promoting clear, kind, and thoughtful communication. We're also exploring the power of snap words for smoother and more impactful reading experiences. Lastly, our learners are engaged in understanding what makes a leader and identifying leaders in their lives.
Warm regards,
Learning Goal
Reading: The focus of this week is the skill of monitoring, not only for comprehension but for word decoding. Phonics: Students will take time to study word parts to help them spell all the way across a word.
Reading: Readers will take ownership of their reading by noticing "CLUNKS" errors and pausing to correct them. Partner work is important here as, students will work together to stop, pause, re-read, and correct. They will keep in mind what they have learned about r-controlled vowels. Phonics: Readers and writers will work together to show what they know about parts of words, they will use what they know about words parts to help them spell all the way across a word.
Reading: Be a partner to your child, read one of these books "The Queens Ants Birthday" or "Fall Forward, Spring Back" with them, and use those signs to help them stop and fix their reading. If you notice R-controlled vowel challenges (-ar, -er, -ir, -or, -ur) use this CHART to help. Phonics: Students will Spell and Write as many words they can using the word parts of st, th, tr, sm, dr, sw, ack, ink, ing, ery. Remember to say them out loud and write them in your homework notebook (Reading Response).
