Dear Third Grade Parents,
Our writers began writing baby literary essays. In this unit, the students will learn to structure an essay by organizing their thinking and using evidence from the story to support their opinion or claim. Also, our writers will discover that essayists raise the level of their essays by including summaries or exact lines from the text as evidence.
Mathematicians worked on problem strings together and they extended their understanding of multiplication. They had so much fun learning about the coral reef ecosystem by using a small clownfish to measure how much longer, and taller other reef species are when compared with the clownfish.
We feel proud that our tigers participated in the chess tournament. Congratulations way to go tigers!!!
Learning Goal
Our writers will choose their favorite essays, and they will share their essays during a celebration. The third graders will give each other positive feedback. The students will learn that writers often collaborate to come up with ideas about character traits, character change, and lessons characters learn. Essayists carefully select an idea that they can effectively support with strong evidence.
Learning Goal
Learning Goal
Mathematicians will be exposed to multiplication in different contexts, inviting them to think of the operation in different ways.
Students examine arrays that will facilitate repeated addition and skip counting that in turn encourages multiplicative strategies like doubling, proportional relationships and partial products.
