Dear Families,
We have an exciting week planned, full of fun and learning! In Reading, our young authors will proudly share their nonfiction books with another second grader in a special celebration, teaching all about their unique topics. In Science, students will take a virtual reality adventure, observing pollinators up close as they work their magic in nature! For Math, we’re diving into adding and subtracting within tens to build our number skills. And in Social Emotional Learning, we’ll explore the power of a growth mindset, learning how perseverance helps us succeed. It’s going to be a fantastic week!

2nd grade Tigers will give final touches to their books
In Phonics this week, the students have been working on determining which consonant to use for -ce or -se endings. They have to decide what looks right when spelling words like house and bounce. Sometimes the ending sounds like a /z/ like in cheese. The students were also introduced to the -ge and -dge endings of words like in cage or badge. Once again, they have to decide what "looks right". 👀 For Writing we will celebrate that our 2nd graders are Non Fiction Authors. They have published two wonderful nonfiction books full with information that attracts their audience.
Keep practicing reading and spelling the tricky Word Wall words: better, follow, happen, different, people, terrible, trouble, answer and surprise. Writing: Create another non fiction book at home, thinking about your audience, include fancy words.

Los estudiantes se preparan para terminan el taller de lectura, como lectores expertos en un tema y celebran compartiendo sus conocimeinto con una audiencia.
A lo largo del taller, los estudiantes han aprendido estrategias de lectura para leer libros informativos, adquiriendo conocimientos que los convierten en expertos en diversos temas. Esta semana, se preparan para compartir sus conocimientos con una audiencia, lo que les permitirá celebrar sus logros y fortalecer su comprensión literal e inferencial.
Lectores en casa investigan más sobre el tema en el que están trabajando para convertirse en expertos.
-Al momento de leer (toman notas)
-Lectores elaboran un cartel, organizando sus ideas para enseñar a su audiencia información clara y atractiva.(El cartel debe contener tema, información importante, dibujos, conclusión)
-Los estudiantes deben escribir de forma que su audiencia pueda entender fácilmente lo escrito, también deben revisar su cartel para asegurarse de que escribieron la información importante.
-Lectores deben practicar su presentación para luego poder enseñar con confianza a su audiencia.

Adding and Subtracting for the Number line
Next week, students will develop facility with the number line as a model for addition and subtraction withing the range of 0 to 100. In addition, they will solve story problems that require either addition or subtraction with double digit numbers.

Discuss these questions with your family "Why is a fixed mindset like a worm and a growth mindset like a caterpillar? How do Worm thoughts and Caterpillar thoughts make you feel?
