Dear Kindergarten Families,
Thank you for your attendance at our Open House! It was wonderful sharing with you all about the learning happening in Kindergarten at ANS. Your participation, questions and presence are appreciated. Students are getting ready to finalize their first units of Reading and Writing. In Phonics, they have been busy learning their letter names and sounds, they will continue to use names to build new words. In math, they were introduced to two new workplaces.

English Literacy
Learning Goal
ELA: Students will be learning to write true stories.
Phonics: Students will be exploring rhymes.
What readers & writers are doing at school...
ELA: Students will learn that to write true stories, writers first think about what happened and then they draw and write what happened first, next and last.
Phonics: Students will learn that when they know a word by heart, they can use parts of those words to make new words.
What readers & writers could be doing at home...
ELA: Ask your child at home about events or activities that as a family you have experienced together, and recall what happened first, next and last.
Phonics: Practice changing the first letter in familiar names to make new words. (For example: mat - rat - sat ; map - lap)
Spanish Literacy
Learning Goal
Los lectores aprenderán a leer libros de cuentos usando palabras para conectar las paginas.
What readers & writers are doing at school...
Español: Los lectores aprenderán a usar palabras de conexión para recontar una historia que ya han escuchado. Celebraremos el final de nuestra primera unidad de lectura y llevarán a casa los libros que leyeron en esta unidad para continuar practicando.
What readers & writers could be doing at home...
Español: En casa los niños pueden volver a contar una historia que hayan escuchado usando sus propias palabras. Continuen practicando la resistencia a la lectura 10 min.
Mathematics
Learning Goal
Students will explore patterns throught motion, sound and concrete materials.
What mathematicians are doing at school...
Mathematiticians will explore patterns through motion, sound and concrete materials. They will use their hands, feet, voice, as well as manipulatives to build skills in recognizing, describing, copying, translating, extending and creating simple patterns.
What readers & writers could be doing at home...
Students can collect different materials at home in order to create their own patterns. Later, they can describe their creations.

Learning Goal
Students will use observations to describe patterns of what birds need to survive.
What tigers are doing at school...
Students will be exploring our ANS campus and observing and asking questions about the different types of birds they find.

Social Emotional Learning Program
Learning Goal
Learners and friends identify tiger's goals and golden rules in the classroom and the playground in order to build positive relationships and be successful at school.
What friends and learners are doing at school...
Learners and friends will practice tiger goals, golden rules and classroom expectations, through explicit demonstrations.
What friends and learners could be practicing at home...
Through family games, you can model how tigers play with their friends: model how to show kindness to their friends, share materials, invite others to play, wait for your turn to participate in games, listen to others opinions. Modeling means physically demonstrating of an action with simple steps.

Important Information:
Monday, September 11th: Early dismissal day (11:30am) - Students can wear traditional Nicaraguan clothing. Pack themselves a traditional Nicaraguan food for lunch.
Tuesday, September 12th to Friday, September 15th: ANS will be closed in observance of Nicaraguan Fiestas Patrias Celebrations.
School will resume its regular schedule on Monday, September 18th.
Monday September 11th is KB's last day for Swimming. On Monday September 18th KC Starts Swimming, please have students wear their swimming suits under their uniform and send towel, goggles, swim caps, comb, and underwear in a swim bag. If your child is not swimming you need to send a medical excuse to jcastro@ans.edu.ni and/or notify the Primary School Office ansprimary@ans.edu.ni
