Dear Families of First Grade!

What an amazing week back! All the beautiful moments that have been shared have touched our hearts and shown that our Tigers are now experets at even more and can share this knowledge in their Teaching books. We are excited what this new year and trimester has in store for our Tigers.

Weekly Learning Goals & Tasks

English Literacy

Writing: Writers will learn the importance of reseraching to teach more, and use all they know to plan their writing.

PHONICS: Relate and apply what you know about blends to see how some blends that come at the end of words are different than those that come at the start of words.

What readers & writers are doing at school...

Writing: Researching will play a huge role this week in our authors writing, they will use all they know to plan for their writing pieces and take the role a a reader of their own Informative books to fix up their writing.

PHONICS: Readers and writers will study that blends can also come at the ending of words. They will explore how some blends that come at the end of words are different than those that come at the start of words.

What readers & writers could be doing at home...

Writing: Talk to your author about what they know, set some time aside to research more on the subject, in books and online. Take a look at this student text, have your writer see how they can help this author fix up their piece. Use the writing checklist to guide you.

PHONICS: Use what we practice about “Some blends that come at the end” to read the book “How Do Flamingos Stand On One Leg”. Remember to hear, say and identify the blends we studied.

¿Qué les enseñaré sobre este tema?

What readers & writers are doing at school...

What readers & writers could be doing at home...

Mientras lees Leche para mí, presta atención a los signos de puntuación y relee si es necesario para que tu voz se escuche con sentimientos.

Mathematics

Learning Goal

What mathematicians could be doing at home...

Home Connection Unit 4 Module 3 Session 2. Hungry shark subtraction Due on Thursday, January 18

Science or Social Studies

Learning Goal

Learn about light and sound

What tigers are doing at school...

SCIENCE: During this unit students will explore how sound and light move. After investigating and exploring both of these phenomena they will then create a device that can communicate a message using light or vibrations using the observations and knowledge they have and the engineering and design process.

What tigers could be doing at home...

SCIENCE Have your scientist think about: How do sound and light move? How can we communicate with each other using sound and light

Social Emotional Learning Program

Learning Goal

This unit is “Communicating With Each Other.” We will talk about what it means to communicate and why communicating is important. We communicate when we express our ideas clearly and pay attention to each other’s emotions, thoughts, and actions. Clear communication helps us play, work, think, and grow together. Let’s take a look at how people communicate.

What friends and learners are doing at school...

Explain to students that they will work in groups to brainstorm ideas about how people communicate, or send messages, using different parts of their bodies. Then, we practiced comunication and counselor provide feedback.

What friends and learners could be practicing at home...

Have students play “emotion charades.” Tell each actor which emotion to portray, such as excitement, sadness, or worry, and then have them act out the emotion using body language only. The student audience can guess the emotion based on the body language clues given by the action.
