What readers & writers are doing at school...
What readers & writers could be doing at home...

Mathematics
Learning Goal
2nd Graders will develop confidence and use the number line to solve addition or subtraction story problems.
What mathematicians are doing at school...
Tigers will develop facility with the number line as a model for addition and subtraction within a range of 0 and 100. Additionally students are asked to model and solve story problems that require either addition or subtraction with double digit numbers. Students are encouraged to develop confidence with the skip jump strategy by moving in both directions on the number line by increments of 1, 5, and 10.
What mathematicians could be doing at home...
Science or Social Studies
Learning Goal
What tigers are doing at school...
Scientists will continue learning about the important relationship between plants and animals. They will examine the wide variety of animals that live in Nicaragua and the relationship that those animals have with the natural work around them, specifically looking at how they help plants by spreading pollen and dispersing seeds.
What tigers could be doing at home...
Students can make a drawing of the pollination process and explain it to their parents.
Social Emotional Learning Program
Learning Goal
This unit will be about “Valuing Each Other.” Learners and friends will think about ways we can show each other that everyone matters in our classroom. Understand what we are good at and what we like to do and stand up for each other if we think someone is being treated unfairly.
What friends and learners are doing at school...
Counselor gives a lesson on the importance of valuing each other. Valuing ourselves and others contributes to a positive classroom community. We can understand what they like and what they don't like and we can understand how they think, feel and act.
What friends and learners could be practicing at home...
You can encourage children to draw what they are good at and share it at home. Parents can also draw a picture that shows what they are good at and reflect on how we can learn from each other.
