2nd Grade News
Dear 2nd Grade Families,
November has finally arrived and our tigers are so excited to continue growing as Readers, Spanish Writers, Mathematicians and Scientists. Please make sure to sign up for our Nonfiction Writing Expo on November 8th, our writers have been editing with so much joy and effort to show their expertise to their audience. 2A 2B. 2C. Also, we want to share our Student Led Conferences Sign Up, 2A SLC. 2B SLC. 2C SLC.
Please make sure to sign up at the right time and be promt to our conferences. Next week our 2nd Grade Readers are beginning their second reading unit of the school year and will transition to Spanish Writing. In Math our mathematicians will be solving one step subtraction story problems within 100 in anumber line.

English Literacy
Learning Goal
Writers will have their Nonfiction Exhibition during this coming week and will share their masterpieces. They will celebrate their expertise as nonfiction writers of books of all kinds.
What readers & writers are doing at school...
Phonics: Students will be learning about soft C and G with silent E at the end of words. They will work with their parnters to read a book about camouflage, remembering to try the soft sound first ehen they find a word ending in -ce or -ge.
What readers & writers could be doing at home...
Sort the following words by their ending letters: house, bounce chase, juice, sense, voice, nurse, fierce.

Los estudiantes finalizan el taller de lectura y practican todas
las estrategias aprendidas, también recuerdan que para enseñar a otros
necesitan estar preparados, por lo que es necesario releer y pensar lo que
se quiere contar, marcan las partes importantes del libro y usan una voz de l
lector experto para ayudar a la audiencia a escuchar y aprender mucho sobre el
tema; sin olvidar hacer preguntas, para conocer si lo enseñado realmente
es comprendido por su audiencia.

Learning Goal
Tigers will solve one step story problems with minuends to 100 involving situations of comparing.
What mathematicians are doing at school...
Students will be solving one step subtraction story problems within 100 involving comparing with unknowns in all positions. They will also skip count by 5s' and 10's within 1000. They will represent whole number differences from minuends up to 100 on a number line.
What mathematicians could be doing at home...
Science or Social Studies
Learning Goal
What tigers are doing at school...
Scientists will continue learning about the important relationship between plants and animals. They will examine the wide variety of animals that live in Nicaragua and the relationship that those animals have with the natural work around them, specifically looking at how they help plants by spreading pollen and dispersing seeds.
What tigers could be doing at home...
Students can make a drawing of the pollination process and explain it to their parents.

Learning Goal
Friends and learners identify fixed and growth mindset thoughts.
Friends and learners turn thoughts from a fixed mindset to a growth mindset.
Friends and learners gain an understanding of how having a growth mindset changes thoughts, feelings, and actions.
What friends and learners are doing at school...
Learners learn the difference between worm thoughts and caterpillar thoughts, and understand how caterpillar thoughts help them develop and maintain a growth mindset and believe they can change, learn, and grow over time. Then through a collaborative activity where children listen to opinions and discuss a situation and identify whether it is a caterpillar thought or a worm thought.
What friends and learners could be practicing at home...
When children present an academic challenge, invite them to use caterpillar thoughts.

2B - Swimming class remains Group B: Oct 30-Nov 17 . Please make sure students bring their ANS sweaters with their names on it. Our students visit many places and it will very hard for them to find them.
2. Home connections are submitted every Friday.
3. Please make sure students bring healthy snacks. Candies or Chocolate Bars are not allowed. Toys are not permitted.
4.Please make sure you send an email to the teacher notifiying any important information about your child regarding after school or any other important announcement before 12 pm.
