3rd Grade News

Dear Families,

Third Graders have been showing growth in their learning and curiosity. They demonstrate maturity in their self-management and thinking skills as they dive deep into exploring a range of foundational skills in Literacy, Mathematics, Social Studies and Science. As we wrapped our Character Studies unit, our students were able to identify character’s traits through the lens of comparison and have broadened their understanding of the story elements. In Mathematics, we are excited to navigate around the concept of measurement: Metric System and Customary System. This is an interesting unit as we embark into conversion of measurement e.g. 10 cm = 100 millimeters, 1000 milliliters = 1 liter. It’s awesome to notice their prior knowledge evolving in this unit. The best place to explore measurement at home is in the kitchen, garage, and the outdoor space.

We strongly encourage our students to practice reading at home, practice their multiplication skills, and to ask questions. In reading, they should be able to discuss with their parents the exposition (setting), rising and falling actions, climax and the resolution in the story. We are proud to share with you that they have participated in a mini-debate in the classroom.

Here is a tool to help your child with their reading:

Character Traits List

On February 14, 2024, our school is celebrating Friendship Day. We did a survey on the types of snacks they wish to have on that day. These are the ideas our students come up with: Pizza, Brownies-Cakes, Cookies, Fruits (bananas, watermelon, oranges), Chips, Cupcakes, Churros de Queso. We kindly ask our room moms to please coordinate and organize our Friendship snacks. We would like to have the same types of snacks in all 3 classes. There are 57 students in all in grade 3. If students would like to bring something additional to share, it must be for all the class.

We would also like for you to send an empty cereal box (small size) by Feb. 2nd the latest, from each student.

Our Tiger’s Trait is Well Rounded. What does it mean to be Well-Rounded?
