2nd Grade News

Dear 2nd grade Families,

Our first week of school is gone and the students did a wonderful job adjusting to their classes, and teachers. 2nd Graders also had a chance to go to their After School Activities. They feel happy to be able to play and interact with their friends too once again.

This week our tigers will continue with routines and expectations within the classroom and during transitions. They will start to learn how to read books and how the books are meant to be read. In Math they starting to create beetle glyphs to represent personal information and will be sorting them in a variety of ways learning more about our new group of friends. During English Literacy our readers will practice the reading routine expectations and they will practice how to choose just right books and how to take care of books.

Our readers will start reading in partners and independent. During Phonics: our Tigers will recall the skills learned in 1st grade as Word detectives to revisit the rules for the silent E. They will review that silent E can sneak onto the end of a word and change the vowel sound , and that there are some exceptions for this rule like in have, come or live.

Spanish

Learning Goal

Student will be introduced to the Narrative Writing Workshop

What readers & writers are doing at school...

This week in Spanish Literacy we begin our valuable " Narrative Writing Workshop", where our writers will discover small important moments and then think of ideas to write a story. Just as master writers do, they will learn to capture ideas and write them down in the Spanish notebook, then choose one of their ideas and stretch out a small moment, using either the writing sheets or the Spanish notebook. Remember that great stories develop from small moments. At the end of the week you will write with detail, pay attention in a small moment and see if the reader can see all that you as a writer are seeing. To write with detail you need to ask yourself questions like: What did you see, what did you hear, how does it feel, you could also include precise actions and dialogue.

What readers & writers could be doing at home...

-Remember small moments

-Write down ideas in a Spanish notebook.

-Read a non-fiction story-narrative book.

-Use writing sheets, take an idea from the notebook, write story-narratives.
