Dear families,

        We hope you’ve had a restful break surrounded by your family members and are ready to start this new year STRONG!  We are looking forward to begin this year with lots of deep learning and meaningful activities.

Comparing and contrasting characters across books.

What readers & writers are doing at school...

Readers will learn that as they come to an end of their stories and the characters resolve their problems, characters, and readers, too, learn lessons. They will also be learning how the parts of the story go together, noticing what particular parts connect. And finally, they will compare and contrast characters' actions and behavior from books they have read.

Mathematicians will share their work with multi-step measurement problems in a math forum. The students will work with a partner on measuring story problems that require more than one step and one operation to solve.

Young scientists use their observation skills to identify animals' adaptations.

What tigers could be doing at home...

Students together with their family will be increasing their Global Awareness by reflecting on how the products they purchase or use can have an effect on habitats around the world.

Learning Goal

We will learn to identify characteristics that we prefer friends to have and help us be good friends to others, and to include others that we might not know a lot about.

Identify characteristics of friendships that are important to me and to others.

Describe why including others and having friends who are similar to and different from me is important.

Find ways to be a good friend and include others.

What friends and learners could be practicing at home...

Reflect on how can you include friends and others in your daily activities. How can you make sure you let others know you value them?
