5th Grade News

Dear 5th-Grade Families,

Our Fall Festival is coming up on October 27th, from 5-9pm. Tickets are on sale at the ANS Cashier or online. If your child is planning to get a costume for Halloween day (October 27th), please remember that costumes should be fun/appropriate and not scary, especially for the younger students. We are also asking your support making sure your child brings a healthy snack every day. Have a lovely weekend!

1) Study mentor texts to understand the importance of commas.

2)Finish final draft to publish.

Writers will be able to read mentor texts and identify the roles commas play in the text. Students will also revise, edit and publish their final draft.

Publish final draft.

Finalización del Taller de Lectura de Ficción e introducción Taller de Escritura Informativa.

What readers & writers are doing at school...

Los lectores finalizarán el taller de Lectura con sus Frases Célebres y lecciones de vida aprendidas durante la lectura. Celebrarán la culminación del taller con la elaboración de "separadores de páginas" / Introducirán el Taller de Escritura Informativa con la redacción dignóstica de un texto informativo. Desempacarán la unidad con los conocimientos previos sobre escritura informativa.

Lectura de su libro de ficción para finalizar el taller.

Mathematics

Learning Goal

Finding common denominators as a step towards adding & subtracting fractions with unlike denominators

What mathematicians are doing at school...

Mathematicians will find equivalent fractions to add and subtract. Mathematicians will also complete a mid-module checkpoint on fractions. 

What mathematicians could be doing at home...

Science or Social Studies

Learning Goal

Brainstorm, plan, explain and start setting up group legume experiment.

What tigers are doing at school..

Scientists are conducting an experiment to see how plants grow in different types of habitats.  They are using this phenomena and concept to learn how to plan and conduct an experiment including how to collect data.

What tigers could be doing at home...

Dialogue with household members about their predictions on the outcome of their legume experiment; try a similar experiment at home using different substrates from those in the classroom.

Social Emotional Learning Program

Learning Goal

We will explore what it means to be our best selves. We are our best selves when we understand our emotions, what causes them, and how they influence how we act or behave

What friends and learners are doing at school..

We will learn more about how emotions, thoughts, and actions are connected. Our unit story, “Farmers Market,” focuses on Maddie and how she feels when the Clubhouse is used for a local farmers market. 

Brainstorm potential goals with students and help them students create 2–3 personal goals related to the unit theme that they can revisit once or twice a week throughout the unit. 

What friends and learners could be practicing at home...

Reflect on the following questions: Why is it important to be our best selves when we are around others? Why it is important to be our best selves when we are alone?
