Our Readers will apply information learned through nonfiction reading to teach others and to generate real-world solutions to real-life problems. As readers themselves, they now have a wealth of techniques for achieving reading goals. We will end our unit by teaching others about our own ideas, our own “ I wonder…” questions and our findings!

Mathematics
Learning Goal
Students will be able to use place value to solve additions and subtractions.
What mathematicians are doing at school...
Students will start a new unit in which they will study additional subtractions and measurement concepts. Module 1 will focus on place value to 1000,000 and multi digit addition strategy. They will build understanding by modeling how to place value and apply that concept when solving addition and subtraction problems.Students will investigate and use the standard addition and subtraction algorithm too.

What tigers are doing at school..
Students have been learning about the effects of one-use plastics on our planet and how we can start to collect and recycle those plastics.They will continue their inquiry into how plastics as used and what alterntives are available to lessen their environmental impact. This week, students will investigate their own use of plastics and reflect on changes they can make to live more sustainable lives. They will begin to take a wider look around the campus, Nicaragua and globally.

What friends and learners are doing at school...
Friends and learners will reflect on how each one brings diverse skills and experiences that contribute to a positive classroom.
Working in buddy pairs friends and learners will choose from each other’s Brainstorming Prep Activity Sheet the skill they would like to learn. One buddy first provides verbal instructions on his or her skill as the buddy writes them down on the Guidelines and Instructions Activity Sheet and then they swap.
