4th Grade News

Dear parents,

Thank you for joining us yesterday! We hope you grew knowledge and feel ready to support your child at home with Math!

This week we are working hard with students to show Perseverance. They are learning that Perseverance is the hard work you do after the hard work you just did!

Weekly Learning Goals & Tasks

English Literacy

Learning Goal

Launching a Whole-Class Research Project

What readers & writers are doing at school...

This week we will launch our new Research Project related to Extreme Weather. Students will learn how to synthesize by thinking how new information can add to or change knowledge that they have already learned. They will learn how to summarize what they have learned but also to write as a way to think about what they are reading and learning.

Social Emotional Learning Program

Learning Goal

Emotions, thoughts, and actions are connected. When we change one, the others are affected too. In this lesson we will practice working with and discussing how emotions, thoughts, and actions work together so that we make useful choices.

.

What friends and learners are doing at school...

Friends and learners will play a game where they respond to situations and show the connections between emotions, thoughts, and actions. Recognizing that their emotions influence their thoughts, and both influence their actions, they will work on “popping” those unhelpful thought bubbles and swapping them for more helpful thoughts, leading to more helpful actions.

What friends and learners could be practicing at home...

Think about a situation you had with a friend that was challenging. What were your initial emotions and thoughts? Did you act on those emotions and thoughts or did you “pop” your unhelpful thought? What was the action you took? You can use the response connection flowchart
