4th Grade News

Dear Families,

What a powerful celebration we had this week. Our Essayist rolled up their sleeves and demonstrated how powerful they have become as writers. Please make time this weekend to read your child’s literary essay and learn from their writing piece.

Weekly Learning Goals & Tasks

English Literacy

Learning Goal

Raising the Quality of Literary Essays

What readers & writers are doing at school...

Our Essayists will be thinking carefully about their introductions and conclusions, giving readers the larger context for their claim in their introduction and leaving readers with something to think about in their conclusion. Last but not least, our writers will learn that essayists check their writing for many things, including making sure they have written in the present tense and that all their pronoun references are correct.

Spanish Literacy

Learning Goal

Los lectores aprenden de nuestro poeta Rubén Darío.

What readers & writers are doing at school...

What readers & writers could be doing at home...

Los lectores podran leer durante 20 minutos, prestando atención a la lección de vida de la historia y escribiendola, apoyandola con evidencia del libro.

Mathematics

Learning Goal

Students will be able to identify, draw, compare, analyze and classify angles.

What mathematicians are doing at school...

Students will study angles in isolation as well as those in two-dimensional figures. They use two very basic benchmarks—the 90° right angle and the 180° straight angle—to determine the measure of the interior angles in each of the pattern blocks. The pattern blocks then serve as a tool for students to check their work as they move into measuring and sketching angles with a 180° protractor.

Students will continue their collaboration with the ANS debate team, DALE NICARAGUA. For the next few weeks, grade four students will team up with the debate team to learn the art of debate, broaden their worldview, learn how to clearly state a claim and provide evidence to support their position. You can find more information about the debate team here: https://www.dalenicaragua.com/ The date of the debate is set for Feb 22.

What tigers could be doing at home...

They are encouraged to begin researching their topic at home.

Social Emotional Learning Program

Learning Goal

Introducing Unit 3 Communicating with each other. We will explore what it means to communicate and why communicating is important to building relationships and community.

.

What friends and learners are doing at school...

Friends and learners will create goals, and engage in a classroom discussion on each of these points:

Why is communicating with others important?

Describe a time when you think you have been successful in communicating. Explain why. Describe a time when you think you could have communicated better. Explain what you might do differently next time.

How do you think you can communicate to help someone else understand what you are saying?

What friends and learners could be practicing at home...

What goals could you set for yourself that would help you communicate effectively with other people?
