1st Grade News

Dear 1st Grade Families,

We are so happy to have fullfilled another week full of learning. Students were monitored on their reading skills and we feel very proud of the great job they did and how much they have grown! We also closed the week with our amazing field trip to American Donuts factory, where students learned the process of making donuts from scratch. Moreover, they had an amazing time sharing a good time at Puerto Salvador Allende, where they had the chance to play, eat, and socialize a lot! They are ready to have a restful weekend!

Weekly Learning Goals & Tasks

English Literacy

Learning Goal

Writing: Writers will use checklists to evaluate their writing and set new goals.

PHONICS: Relate and apply what you know about reading all the way across words and know common ways that words end. With that knowledge and with a peek at the first letter of an ending, students can guess what the ending might be and then check their guesses as they read on.

What readers & writers are doing at school...

Writing: Using their own checklist writers will make sure that they are being ambitious whilst setting goals for their writing. A checklist will help them achieve this goal. Writers will take the time to check their writing and notice punctuationn, spelling as well as Capitals.

PHONICS: Readers and writers will explore how important it is to read all the way across words and know common ways that words end. With that knowledge and with a peek at the first letter of an ending, you can guess what the ending might be and then check your guesses as you read on.

What readers & writers could be doing at home...

Writing: Write a letter to someone with your child, teaching them about something. Use this CHECKLIST to make sure we are adding all we need so that the reader can read the letter with ease. Thisnk about spelling, capitals and punctuation.

PHONICS: Use what we practice about “Common Word Endings” to read the book “Black and White”. Now from the book, get examples of those endings.

Write them in your homework notebook (Reading Response).
