English Literacy

Learning Goal

Writing Compare-and-Contrast Essays

What readers & writers are doing at school...

The hallmark of true understanding is the ability to take a strategy, a skill, or a lesson and apply it to new situations independently!

For our final week in Writing, our students will apply everything that they have learned across the past lessons and apply them for one last final compare-and-contrast essay. This type of intellectual work gets students to think more deeply about texts they are reading and to move more effortlessly up and down the ladder of abstraction. As writers, our children will carry forward all they know and use it in service of writing to compare and contrast! Off they go!

Consider how my communication affects the thoughts, feelings and actions of others.

Communicate respectfully and show others that I care about them and their thoughts.

What friends and learners could be practicing at home...

Identify new Communication Boosters or Bloopers in their various environments throughout the week. Think about how they might turn a “bloop” into a boost.
