2nd Grade News

Dear 2nd Grade Families,

September has finally ended full of fun learning! Our 2nd Grade Tigers have made tremendous work by applying all what they've learned during Number Corner, Bridges, Science, Phonics, Spanish and Reading; they have started how to build their reading stamina, more addition and subtraction facts and strong observations during Science! We just started our Writing Unit and we will continue writing more Nonfiction Books in which our writers will plan how to develop their writing pieces.

Weekly Learning Goals & Tasks

English Literacy

Learning Goal

Writers will be writing more asking themselves: What else could I try? They will set goals and make plans to be strong writers.

What readers & writers could be doing at home...

Writers can write about a topic they know a lot about. Students may use the charts shared to create a new book or a how-to book. Table of content paper writing paper1. Writing paper 2

Spanish Literacy

Learning Goal

Estudiantes inician el taller de lectura de no ficcion. Los lectores de libros informativos pensaran mucho y aumentaran sus conocimientos.

What readers & writers are doing at school...

What readers & writers could be doing at home...

Mathematics

Learning Goal

Tigers will fluently add and subtract within 20 using mental strategies.

What mathematicians are doing at school...

Mathematicians will estimate, measure and count objects by laying multiple copies of a shorter unit end to end. We will also skip count by 5 s and 10 s within 1000.

Science or Social Studies

Learning Goal

Plan and conduct an investigation to determine if plants need sunlight and water to grow.

What tigers are doing at school...

Students will be reading books together about plants and making connections between what they are reading and the observations they have made during class. Also, they will conduct an experiment in wich they plant a bean seed in groups and observe how it grows in 3 different scenarios: sunlight, little sunlight, no sunlight.

What tigers could be doing at home...

We encourage our young scientifics to go to their back yard or patio to observe the plants that receive sunglight and the ones that don't. They should write down their observations and questions on a separate piece of paper so they can share in class.

Social Emotional Learning Program

Learning Goal

Learners and friends introduce, recognize and differentiate what are thoughts, feelings and actions when they work and play with others.

What friends and learners are doing at school...

Simple examples thought role playing and working in groups, they differentiate and label what is a thought, feeling or action

What friends and learners could be practicing at home...

When you read a story with your child, you can ask questions about the characters: What does this character think? How does it feel to think that way? What action the character are going to do?
