Author’s Notes: This has been written especially for Ashley to hopefully fulfil one of the wishes on her Christmas wishlist. Merry Christmas, hon; I hope you like it. *hugs*

It’s also been written for theechochorus.

“Exactly how many people are coming to Christmas lunch?” Nathan grumped as he peeled another carrot. He’d already peeled so many that his fingers had turned as orange as a basketball.

Haley laughed, shaking her head as she checked on the turkey in the oven. “It’ll just be the three of us and Luke,” she told him.

“Yeah, that’s what I thought so how come I’m peeling enough vegetables to feed an army?”

“Are you kidding me? You two eat like an army,” she pointed out. “And you know as well as I do that you’ll both be complaining if there isn’t enough for seconds.”

Nathan laughed at that. “Yeah, somehow I doubt either of us will mind if we ran out of veggies and I know for a fact Jamie won’t.”

“Hey, as long as he believes that carrots will help him see in the dark he’ll eat them.”

“Okay, whatever you say,” he said, smirking. “Kind of funny though how I saw him feeding Chester a couple of carrots earlier on.”

“What?”

He couldn’t help laughing again at the expression on her face. “Sorry, babe. I’m pretty sure he was trying to reduce the amount he might have to eat at lunch.”

“He is so your son,” she said, her lips curving upwards into her own smirk.

Picking up another carrot, a thought popped into his head and he frowned. “Where’s Luke?”

“He’s taken Jamie to the park. Why?”

“Just wondering why I’m stuck here peeling what feels like a hundred tons of carrots while he’s out having fun. You could’ve reversed our roles.”

“Hmm, I guess I could’ve,” she agreed, her smirk deepening. Opening up a drawer, she removed something from it and hid the item behind her back as she walked over to the kitchen table where Nathan was seated at. “But then we wouldn’t be alone and I couldn’t do this…” Bringing her hand around to the front, she revealed to him the sprig of mistletoe she’d picked up, holding the plant above his head as she leaned down and pressed her lips against his.

“Good thinking,” he murmured several moments later when the kiss had ended. Dropping the peeler he was still holding onto the table, Nathan pushed his chair back and pulled his Haley onto his lap; one arm wrapping securely around her waist while the other cupped her cheek and directed her mouth back to his.

“Merry Christmas, baby,” she whispered, nuzzling her nose against his before dipping in for another kiss.

“Merry Christmas,” he echoed, twirling the ends of her ponytail around his fingers.

When Lucas and a rosy-cheeked Jamie arrived home a short while later, the only telltale sign that anything… untoward had happened was the fact Nathan was still peeling a mountain of carrots, only this time he wore a big smile on his face and was humming a Christmas tune as he worked his way through them.
