New Beginnings - Chapter Two

Chapter Two

Nathan lavished Haley’s lips with kisses before kissing a path down to her jaw and then further down to her neck, sucking furiously on the soft skin, determined to leave his mark.

“Oh my God... Mr Scott...we...uh...we shouldn’t be doing this...” Haley muttered as she tried to focus on something other than Nathan’s hot, wet mouth which was practically devouring her.

“Nathan...call me Nathan...” he demanded, pausing for a moment to drink in her flushed state and loving the fact that he was the cause of it.

“Nathan...Nathan...don’t stop...please don’t stop...” she begged, bringing her arms up around him and caressing his neck with one hand while tangling the other in his thick dark hair, marveling at how soft it felt running through her fingers.

“You feel so good...Haley...Haley...” Nathan chanted as he moved back up to her lips and kissed her passionately before moving on to work on the other side of her neck. He breathed in her familiar scent, remembering how over the past six months it would drive him wild whenever she was standing close to him. The thought of kissing her senseless had been a hard one to ignore until now. He pushed all those thoughts out of his mind as he continued to ravage her neck with bites, soothing licks and kisses.

Time seemed to stand still as they pleasured each others mouths with their lips, tongues and even teeth before reality began to sink in again.

“Stop...we have to stop...Nathan...” Haley said breathlessly as she managed to pull away from him. She saw the feral look in his gorgeous blue eyes combined with the lust that was being directed at her and she almost gave in to it. Fighting it, she instead reached up and softly caressed the side of his face with her palm. “I’m sorry but this...this is wrong. We’ll only regret it if we let things go further. I mean, you’re my boss and I really like working for you and I don’t want to have to leave but...”

Nathan watched her lips move as she started to babble and instinct took over once again as he grabbed her, covered her lips with his own and kissed her thoroughly. He felt her lips start to move against his, returning his kiss but this time he was the one to break it and take a step back from her.

“Uh...what...what are you doing?” she asked him feeling somewhat confused.

“I’m sorry, Haley, but you were babbling again and so I kissed you to...um...calm you down,” he answered sheepishly.

Feeling disappointed, she lowered her eyes and focused her gaze on the dark wood floor. “Oh, so when you kissed me before...it was...um...just to calm me down?”

“No! Well, yes and no I guess.” Moving closer to her, he placed his fingers under her chin forcing her to look at his face. “Yes, I wanted to calm you down but...Haley, I’ve wanted to kiss you for so long. I know you probably won’t believe me but I…uh…I’ve never felt like this about anyone before...” Nathan said trailing off.

Haley felt the smile forming on her face. “You...uh… You have feelings for me?”

Reassured by the smile on her face, he replied, “Yeah, yeah I do. From the first moment I met you I wanted to kiss you, but that’s not why I gave you this job. I mean, you were the most experienced out of the people I interviewed and I knew you’d be a great PA and would be really good at helping me set up the business and...”

This time, Haley interrupted Nathan’s rambling by kissing him and then pulling his bottom lip between her own lips and sucking on it, all the time keeping her eyes open and looking at his handsome face. Pulling back, she smirked at him and said, “That was to calm you down.”

Nathan laughed and wrapped his arms around her waist and brought her even closer. “It must be catching because I don’t think I’ve ever babbled before.”

Taking one of her hands in his own, he led her over to the leather couch in his office and gestured for her to sit down before he did the same. “Listen, Haley, before when we were kissing, you said we had to stop, that what we were doing was wrong. I just want to say that I don’t think it’s wrong and I meant it when I said I have feelings for you, but if you don’t feel the same...”

“I do, Nathan.” Haley quickly confirmed. “I do have feelings for you. When you asked me out to dinner tonight I could have kicked myself for saying no. I guess...I guess I was just worried that if we started something and it didn’t work out that I would have to leave. Making the decision to move from my hometown to New York was a hard one for me, but when I got the job with you I was so happy and I knew I’d made the right choice.”

He returned the smile she was rewarding him with before saying, “I’m glad you made that decision, too. Look, we don’t have to rush things, right? Let’s just take things one day at a time and see how it goes. We could agree to have a completely professional relationship in the office, you know, no funny business or anything although let me tell you that will be a hard promise to keep, but I’m willing to try it. What do you say?”

“I think I’d like to give it a try. I know you probably think I’m being really stupid about all this and especially as it’s only the two of us who share this office but I love this job and I don’t want anything to spoil it, you know?”

“I know and I don’t think you’re being stupid about this. I love having you work for me and I don’t want anything to change that,” he told her, bringing his arm around her shoulders as she moved closer into him, resting her head on his chest.

After a minute or so had passed she broke the silence. “So, do you still want to have dinner with me tonight?”

Moving away from her slightly so he could face her, he said, “Yeah, I’d really like that.”

“Okay, then. Well, I’d better get back to my desk and make a start on that report. The sooner I get started the sooner I’ll finish and we can get out of here.” Getting up from her seat beside him on the couch, she debated whether or not to give in to temptation and deciding to take a chance, she lowered her head and pressed a soft kiss to his lips. Smiling at him one last time, she turned and started to walk out of his office.

Nathan waited until she was just about to leave his office before speaking. “By the way, I love the fact you’re calling me Nathan now and not just Mr Scott.”

“Do you still want me to call you by your first name when we’re being all professional during the day, or...”

“Definitely. I love the way you say it. Anyway, I always thought it was odd that you insisted on calling me Mr Scott when there’s only the two of us here but, hey, if that’s what you prefer to call me, then that’s fine by me.”

“No, that’s okay. I...uh...I like calling you Nathan.”

“Me too. Now, Ms James, I think you had better get back to work,” he said smiling at her.

“Yes Sir,” she replied as she finally left his office.

Calling out to her, he jokingly said, “Hey, that works too. Maybe you can start calling me ‘Sir’ from now on,” and then laughed when she told him just what she thought of that idea.
