“What is it with the extremes of weather we seem to be having lately?” Maria asked, as she and Michael entered their house and began removing their outer wear.

“Tell me about it. We’re supposed to have hot, dry weather, not freezing cold snow that makes your blood feel like ice in your veins.” He rubbed his hands up and down his arms over the thick wool sweater he was wearing which had been a Christmas gift from Amy Deluca.

After hanging up their coats, hats and scarves, Maria walked over to where he stood and wrapped her arms around his neck and pushed herself up onto her tiptoes. “Aww, baby, do you want me to warm you up?”

“Definitely,” he told her, leaning down to meet her lips. The kiss was soft and tender yet with an underlying passion that he knew wouldn’t take much to fully ignite. “But there’s one more present for you to open.”

“Another one? Oh, wait, is this something you didn’t want me to open in front of my Mom and Jim?”

Michael shook his head. “Nope. I did debate giving you this in front of them but I finally decided I wanted it to just be the two of us.” Cupping her face between his palms, he kissed her again before pulling away and walking over to the side cabinet in their living room and opening the top drawer. He took her small hand in his and led her over to the couch, gently pushing her down onto it and then took a seat beside her.

Maria’s breath caught in her throat and tears stung her eyes when he handed her the small, gift-wrapped box. Her gaze met his and she saw the mixture of hopefulness and anxiousness upon his face as he waited for her to open it and she smiled brightly at him. She picked at the edge of the pretty wrapping, one finger sliding beneath the tape and breaking the seal.

“Take your time,” Michael quipped sarcastically, a smirk pulling at the corners of his mouth as he watched her.

“Shush,” she retorted. “I’m savouring the moment seeing as I’ve had to wait a long time for it.”

“Waited a long time for what?” he teased knowingly.

“You know what.” Her impatience soon won over and she began tearing at the wrapping, letting it fall to the floor and she paused for a moment before finally opening the plush, blue velvet box. She gasped when she saw the white gold band with an emerald in the centre with smaller white diamonds surrounding. The diamonds looked like petals on a flower and it was one of the prettiest rings she had ever seen and definitely something she would have chosen for herself.

“Do you like it?” Michael finally asked. His hands felt clammy and he ran them along his jean-clad thighs.

“I love it, Michael.” Maria watched as he moved off the couch and dropped to one knee, and she waited with baited breath to hear what he was about to say.

“I love you, Maria… I always have.” Seeing the look on her face, he grinned sheepishly and added, “Even if there were times at the very beginning where I wouldn’t admit it.” Becoming serious again, he continued. “We’ve been through so much, both together and apart and then together again but I’ve got no regrets, not when it’s led us here. I can’t imagine my life without you in it and just the thought of not being with you…” His words trailed off, not wanting to even think about that scenario.

“I know, I feel the same.” Her fingers found his and she gave them a reassuring squeeze.

“I want us to spend the rest of our lives together so, Maria Deluca, will you marry me?”

Sliding off the couch, she kneeled in front of him and wrapped her arms around his neck, her nose rubbing against his. “Yes,” she whispered before repeating it in a louder voice. “Yes! Yes, I’ll marry you, Michael.”

Their mouths met in a soft kiss and when he parted his lips, she slipped her tongue between them, letting it tangle and glide against his. The sound of heavy, panted breaths was the only sound audible in the room.

“Wait! You have to put the ring on my finger!” Maria exclaimed several moments later and drawing back from him slightly, she opened her palm where the box still resided. Holding it out to him, she watched him pluck the delicate ring from its blue silk cushion and tears filled her eyes when he took her left hand in his and slowly slid the white gold band onto it. Bringing her hand up to his mouth, he pressed a kiss to the back of it, just above where the ring resided and she saw his eyes glistening with tears.

“I love you so much, Michael,” she told him, her left hand softly stroking his cheek before she rubbed her lips against his.

“I love you, too. More than anything.”

This time when their lips met, it was scorching hot and the passion skyrocketed. Their hands made short work of removing each other’s clothing and before they knew it, they were both completely naked and joined together on the living room floor. The only light in the room was that from the Christmas tree lights which were twinkling prettily in the background.

Reaching out her hand, Maria gripped the edge of the couch cushions as Michael rocked in and out of her and she moaned loudly when he hit a particularly sensitive spot deep inside of her. Her legs squeezed in tightly, wanting to feel him as close as possible and when he shifted his position slightly and began bumping her clit on each down-stroke, she screamed his name as she suddenly climaxed.

The feel of her internal muscles flexing around him was Michael’s undoing and he spilled himself inside of her a few moments later, her name repeatedly dropping from his lips almost like a mantra.

Her hands wandered all over his back and shoulders, sliding along his sweat-slicked skin and she smiled against his lips. “So, I take it you’re all warmed up now.”

“Hmm, I’m feeling a little shivery all of a sudden,” he told her, his eyebrows wiggling suggestively which had her laughing out loud.

“Funny, you should say that… I’m feeling all shivery, too. How about we move this upstairs to bed and get more comfortable?”

Kissing her lips again, he nodded. “Definitely. Although, don’t you want to phone your Mom or Liz first and tell them the good news?”

“That can wait until later…much later,” Maria informed him, squealing a moment later when he suddenly moved and pulled her up into his arms and began carrying her upstairs.

“Good answer, very good answer,” he told her, sealing the deal with a long, leisurely kiss before dropping her onto their large, Queen-sized bed and then climbing on top of her, every part of their bodies touching.

“Thank you for my ring. It’s perfect.” Her legs wrapped around his hips and she hissed when she felt a certain part of his anatomy pressed against her. Sliding her hand between their bodies, she took him firmly in hand and caressed him slowly, her thumb collecting the precum at the tip and using it to aid her movements.

“Y-You’re welcome,” Michael choked out and when she placed him at her entrance, he easily slid inside of her.

With their earlier activities downstairs having taken the edge off, this time lasted much longer and their breathing was ragged and laboured by the time they had both climaxed, their bodies hot to the point of almost overheating.

“Okay, now I’m completely warmed up,” Michael teased as he shifted them so that he was laying on his back with Maria draped all over him, her long blonde hair tickling his chest.

“You’re incorrigible, you know that?”

“But you love me anyway.”

“Yeah, I do and I wouldn’t have you any other way,” she said, tilting her head back and pressing a kiss to his jaw.

“Ditto,” he returned, finding her lips and kissing her soundly. “You’re the only one for me.”

Curling into his warmth, Maria wrapped her arms around him as he found the edge of the comforter and pulled it over the both of them. Christmas had always been her favourite time of year and this year’s was made even more special by Michael’s surprise proposal. As she fell into a dream-filled sleep, she couldn’t help but wonder how he would top next year’s.
