Title: Superstition

Author: Diane

Pairing: Nathan/Haley

Rating: Teen Rated

Disclaimer: I don't own a thing!

Spoilers/Warnings: This ficlet is my take on what might've happened the night before the wedding vow renewal in 3.22 “The Show Must Go On”.

Summary: “Listen, if you're not doing anything tomorrow, how about I meet you in the church gardens and we get married?”

Author's Notes: The idea for this came to me after watching a particular scene from Scott and Charlene's Love Story on YouTube so full credit goes to the Neighbours writers for some of the dialogue I'm using.

Lying curled up together on the couch on the eve of their wedding vow renewal, Haley sighed contentedly as she snuggled in even closer to Nathan; breathing in his familiar scent. While she loved the intimacy of their first wedding, she was excited to stand in front of all their family and friends and reaffirm their commitment to each other.

Nathan's hold on her tightened that little bit more upon feeling her shift even closer and he savored the feel of her curvy little body pressing against him. He felt so relaxed in that moment that he could have easily fallen asleep. However, his eyes flew open a split-second later when she shrieked loud enough to wake their neighbors.

“Oh my God!”

“What, what is it?” He frowned as she scrambled up off the couch and stood in front of him.

“It's ten-to-midnight!” she announced, holding out her wrist so he could see the time on her watch.

“Yeah, so?”

“Seriously? Tomorrow's our wedding day, Nathan, and it's bad luck for us to see each other before the ceremony.”

He shook his head as he stood up. “C'mon, Hales. You don't believe that superstitious cra—”

“No, don't say it. You'll jinx us,” she warned. Grabbing his forearm, Haley started pulling him towards their front door.

“Alright, alright, there's no need to be so rough,” he teased. For a tiny thing, his wife was surprisingly strong when she needed to be.

She laughed when they paused by the door. “You've got everything you need at Luke's right?”

“Yeah,” he said, nodding. He'd taken his stuff over to his brother's earlier that day so he was all set. “You'd think he'd do the decent thing and take the floor and let me have his bed though.”

“Yeah,” she mused, “after all, you do need your beauty sleep.”

“Very funny,” he said, laughing. Moving in to hug her, he smirked when she side-stepped him and opened the door.

As much as she wanted to hold him before he left, Haley knew what a simple hug could turn into where they were concerned and time was ticking. “C'mon, Nathan... there's no time for that. You've got to go.”

“Okay, okay, I'm leaving.”

Going through the door, Nathan turned to face her. “Listen, if you're not doing anything tomorrow, how about I meet you in the church gardens and we get married?”

Haley smiled back at him. “Hm, I'll think about it.”

Leaning in, their lips met and they shared a soft, tender kiss. Drawing back from him a long moment later, she placed her hand on his shoulder and gently pushed him out of the door.

“Sweet dreams, Hales.” Somehow, Nathan managed to steal one last kiss from her before he left and he couldn't help laughing as he heard her lock the door behind him.
