Summary: Today, she was wearing his favourite and he knew she’d done it especially for him.

Author’s Notes: Well, this is a turn up for the books, eh. My first Candy ficlet in what feels like forever and hopefully I haven’t completely lost my touch for writing them.

This is set sometime during early Season 3; basically before all the crappiness happened.

Maria’s beautiful bee stung lips always caught his eye, even more so after she’d applied her favourite fruit-flavoured lip gloss to them. He’d stare at them as she talked, his mind busy trying to guess which flavour she’d used today. Would it be Raspberry Swirl? Coconut Ice? Or his personal favourite, Cherry On Top?

The question would niggle at the back of his mind all day until he could take it no more and he’d end up dragging her into the Eraser Room if they were at school or pushing her into the staff bathroom at the Crashdown while everyone else was busy serving out front.

He’d press his mouth against hers, his tongue licking at her lips before his own would curve upwards into a smirk when he realised that, as usual, he’d guessed correctly.

Today, she was wearing his favourite and he knew she’d done it especially for him. She was wearing it more often these days and he sure as hell wasn’t complaining. He smiled as he remembered just how passionate her thank you had been when he’d bought her some so she could keep it at his apartment for those times she stayed over unexpectedly.

Shifting his position in bed, the sheets pooled at his waist, he watched with hungry eyes as Maria brushed her long, golden hair; pulling it up into a messy bun before picking up the familiar tube of lip gloss and uncapping it. Her eyes met his in the mirror as she slid the applicator across her lips before pressing them together and blowing him a kiss which made him laugh.

“Why don’t you come over here and give me a proper kiss?” he teased, his voice playful as he let his eyes wander all over her.

“Michael...”

“What?”

“If I come over there, I’ll never get out of here.”

“And that’s a bad thing, why?”

Maria laughed. “My Mom’s back today and I promised I’d spend the evening with her catching up, you know that.”

Michael nodded his head. “Yeah, I know. Any chance I could sneak in tonight after she’s gone to bed?”

Despite her better judgement, she went over and sat down on his bed and, leaning forward, she nuzzled her nose against his before covering his mouth and kissing him softly, her hand coming up to cup his cheek in her palm. “If you don’t mind getting hit by her newspaper again,” she teased, lightly caressing his skin and liking the feel of his prickly stubble beneath the pads of her fingers.

“Very funny.” Turning his head to the side and taking her hand in his, he pressed a kiss into the centre of her palm, reminiscent of a time when she’d done the same thing to him. “C’mon, Maria, I’ll sneak out before she wakes up.”

“Uh huh, you say that now, Michael.”

“So come here after you’ve caught up with Amy. Tell her you’re hanging out with Liz or—”

“I can’t,” Maria interrupted. “I haven’t seen her in getting on for a week now and I wouldn’t feel right if I hung out with her for just a couple of hours and then took off to meet Liz, especially if I was making it up. Look, I promise I’ll make it up to you.”

“Absolutely promise?”

She smiled at him. “I absolutely promise.”

“Okay,” he said, smiling back at her.

Kissing him again, she giggled against his lips when she could feel him licking off all of the lip gloss she’d applied and pulling back from him, she pinched his nipple.

“Ow!”

“Serves you right, honey.” Giving him one last kiss, she got up from the bed and smoothed down the fabric of her skirt. “I’ll call you tonight before I go to sleep, okay?”

He nodded his head in agreement as his eyes took in the gentle sway of her hips as she walked away. “Drive safe,” he called out before she’d left the room.

“I will. You be good.”

“I’m always good,” he replied, wiggling his eyebrows suggestively which had her laughing again. God, he loved the sound of her laugh. It was so... melodic.

“Oh, I know,” she teased back, giving him a small wave before she was gone and a few moments later he heard the front door of his apartment close signalling her departure.

Laying back against the pillows, Michael smirked as he contemplated just how long he’d have to wait before his gorgeous girlfriend begged him to sneak into her room after dark despite everything she’d just said to him. He knew she’d be waiting for him, her window unlocked and her lips all shiny and pouty…

He turned onto his side and grabbed hold of Maria’s pillow, breathing in her familiar scent as he decided to have a nap because, he thought to himself with a smile, he’d definitely be needing his strength for later.
