Wishes Really Do Come True

Title: Wishes Really Do Come True

Author: Diane

Pairing: Nathan/Haley

Category: AU

Rating: Teen Rated

Disclaimer: Nope, I don’t own a thing!

Spoilers/Warnings: None as it’s an AU fic which I’ve set sometime during Season 2. As per the show, Haley is tutoring Nathan but they never got together and so aren’t dating, let alone married. This is a sequel to ‘Make A Wish’ and I’d suggest reading it before this one.

Summary: “Or maybe it’s ‘cause it’s you doing the pleasing,” he told her, giving her hand a little squeeze. “Okay, that sounded kinda dirty.”

Author’s Notes: This has been written for Susan on her birthday. I hope you’re having a lovely day and that you like this. *hugs*

Shifting from foot to foot as she waited for him to lock the car, Haley couldn’t help feeling nervous. Never in her wildest dreams did she ever think she’d get to go on a date with Nathan Scott, the most popular boy at Tree Hill High. God, it sounded like such a cliché but it was a fact. His success on the basketball court spoke for itself but when you combined that with who his father was… well, it was safe to say that everyone in town either knew or knew of Nathan.

“Hey, you okay?”

“Uh huh,” she answered, his voice breaking into her thoughts and, nodding her head, she gave him what she hoped was a reassuring smile. “So, what movie do you want to see?”

Closing the short distance between them, Nathan took her hand in his and laced their fingers together. “I heard Bottle Rocket is playing so I thought we could go see that unless…”

“We already saw that together,” she informed him, unconsciously rubbing her thumb along the back of his hand.

“Yeah, but I didn’t really pay much attention to the movie last time.”

Cocking her head to the side, she gave him a confused look. “How come?”

“‘Cause I was thinking about how much I really wanted to kiss you,” he confessed.

“Wow!” she gasped. She remembered that day several months ago like it was only yesterday. Nathan had been going through some tough times with his parents and in an attempt to help him feel better and take his mind off of everything, she’d agreed to skip their tutoring session and go downtown with him to watch Bottle Rocket. Sitting in the darkened, practically empty theatre with their hands brushing against each other’s when they’d reached into the popcorn bucket at the same time… it was nothing short of sweet torture. All of her senses had seemed heightened and it had taken all of her concentration to keep her eyes on the big screen and not to turn her head and stare at him.

“Is that a good wow or a bad one?” he quipped, although his stomach was currently doing a series of somersaults as he waited for her response.

“It’s a surprised one. I didn’t know…”

“That’s how I wanted it, Hales. Even back then I thought of you as my best friend and I… I didn’t want to wreck that by coming onto you and then there’s the fact that I didn’t know if you even felt the same.”

“I did feel the same,” she admitted, her cheeks flushing slightly.

Smiling at her, he ducked his head and brushed his lips over hers in a soft kiss. “I’m glad. So, is watching Bottle Rocket cool with you or do you want to see what else is on?”

“Bottle Rocket’s more than fine,” she said, smiling back at him. Giving his fingers a gentle squeeze, they started walking towards their destination.

Haley sank her teeth into her bottom lip to try and keep from moaning as Nathan kissed down her throat until he arrived at the base of her neck. Her fingers threaded through his thick, dark hair, holding him to her, as she gave herself over to the delicious sensations he was causing within her and she had a feeling she was going to have to wear a turtleneck tomorrow to hide the hickey he was furiously working on creating. She definitely wasn’t complaining though since this is what she’d been dreaming about for so long now.

Her moans turned into a fit of giggles as she remembered how when the lights had dimmed, Nathan had picked up her hand which had been resting in her lap and started playing with her fingers as they waited for the movie to start. She couldn’t believe that he’d been serious about watching it when all she wanted to do was make out. God, they hadn’t even been dating a full day and she was already turning into some kind of… horndog, desperate to feel his mouth on hers.

“What’s so funny?” Nathan whispered into her ear; his hot, moist breath puffing against her skin.

“Just thinking about how much I like kissing you,” she replied.

“And that’s funny?”

“No…” She shivered at the intense look in his eyes and she ran her tongue over her suddenly too dry lips, tasting him on them which made her crave his kisses even more.

“Good.” Tilting his head slightly, he slanted his mouth over hers and kissed her hotly, his tongue slipping between her lips as soon as she parted them. His palm cradled her cheek while her own hand fisted his shirt. “Do you want to watch the movie?” he somehow managed to ask her when the kiss eventually broke despite how heavy and ragged his breathing seemed to be.

“No,” she whispered, shaking her head before sucking his bottom lip into her mouth and grazing the soft flesh with her teeth.

Nathan couldn’t believe how turned on he felt just from kissing her. His entire body felt electrified and his temperature seemed to be rising, as was a certain part of his anatomy. While he knew being with Haley would feel great, he hadn’t imagined it feeling this amazing and he was pretty sure it was only going to get better.

“Do you want to leave?” Haley asked, her voice so quiet he almost didn’t hear her.

“Um… If you don’t mind missing the movie—”

“I saw it last time,” she told him, nuzzling her nose against his before pressing her lips onto his once more.

“If you hadn’t I’d just buy you the DVD,” he teased.

Rubbing his thumb along her cheekbone, he reluctantly released her so he could stand up and he grabbed their jackets as she also stood and, together, they made their way out of the theatre, ignoring the curious looks they received from the screening room’s other occupants.

“So, where to now?” Nathan asked, pulling on his jacket while Haley did the same.

“Hmm, I think I remember you saying something about dinner when you invited me on this date?”

“Yeah, I did. What do you feel like?”

An idea suddenly popped into her head and she contemplated whether to put it to him or not.

“What is it?”

“Huh? What do you mean?”

“You’ve got that look,” he told her.

“What look?”

“The look you get when you want to tell me something but you don’t really want to tell me.”

“No I don’t, and you shouldn’t know that look yet,” she said, pointing a finger at him while the corners of her lips turned upwards. God, she loved how well he already knew her and her quirky ways.

“What is it?”

“We could go back to my house… It’s just my parents aren’t there and—”

“So, I’ve been to your place before when your parents haven’t been home?”

“Yeah, but we weren’t, um, dating then.”

Nathan suddenly realised what she was getting at and he couldn’t help chuckling. “Hales…”

“I know I’m being stupid but—”

“You’re not being stupid,” he interrupted and going over to where she was standing, he wrapped his arms around her waist. “Nothing’s changed… Wait, I take that back. Everything’s changed but it doesn’t mean that we can’t hang out like we did before. It’s just that we get to make out now,” he said, smirking at her.

Haley swatted his shoulder. “You’re terrible, you know that?”

“Uh huh,” he mumbled in agreement as his lips met hers.

“We can’t do this here,” she giggled, gently pushing him away before they got too carried away, her skin flushing as she looked around to see if anyone was watching them.

“We just did. C’mon, let’s go hang out at your place and I promise I won’t jump you. Your virtue is safe with me.”

“Yeah, right,” she said before she burst out laughing.

“Okay, it isn’t but it’s safe for now… Better?”

“Much.” She was still laughing but it soon faded away when he pressed a light kiss onto her lips.

“So, are your parents at Quinn’s?”

“Yeah. The baby’s due any day now and they figured she and Josh might be glad of some help taking care of Maddie,” she said, referring to her older sister’s three-year-old daughter.

He nodded at her answer. “Do you want to pick up some takeout before we head back?” Nathan asked as, hand-in-hand, they made their way to where he’d parked his car.

“My Mom made me a mountain of mac and cheese to tide me over while they’re gone so unless you want something different you could help me make my way through it.”

“I love your mom’s food so I’m not going to say no to that.”

“And don’t forget there are my cupcakes for dessert.”

“Awesome!” he exclaimed, pumping his fist.

“Wow, you’re easily pleased,” Haley teased.

“Or maybe it’s ‘cause it’s you doing the pleasing,” he told her, giving her hand a little squeeze. “Okay, that sounded kinda dirty.”

Laughing, she shook her head. “There’s no ‘kinda’ about it but it’s okay. I think I know what you meant.”

“Good.” He breathed a little sigh of relief that she hadn’t taken his words the wrong way. “Hey, if you want, we could stop off at the video store and rent Bottle Rocket,” he suggested as he unlocked the car and then opened the passenger door for her, he said,

Tongue firmly in cheek, she replied, “Nah, it’s cool. I’ve got a feeling we wouldn’t get to watch it anyway.” They shared a knowing look – Nathan with a smirk gracing his lips while a rosy blush tinted her cheeks – before they again started laughing.

“And you say I’m the terrible one.”

“Like you weren’t thinking the exact same thing,” she kidded.

“Maybe I was and maybe I wasn’t. I’m not telling.”

“Whatever,” she said, popping a kiss onto his cheek before getting into the vehicle, her eyes twinkling with amusement.

As Nathan made his way to the driver’s side, he again marvelled at how much better his life was with Haley in it and now that they were dating, he was sure it was only the beginning of things to come. Who’d have thought that a simple birthday wish could be the start of everything.
