Chapter Three
Nathan felt like a ball of nervous energy as he stood in Haley’s bedroom and for the life of him he didn’t know why. He’d been up here before when her parents were away and that had been fine…more than fine.
“So…”
Her voice brought him out of his thoughts and he smiled as he walked over to her bed where she was sitting. “So…” Taking her hands in his, he pulled her up so that she was standing in front of him and keeping their fingers intertwined, he wrapped his arms around her waist which caused their bodies to press even closer together.
Haley sighed into his mouth when his lips touched hers and she ran her tongue over the inside of his bottom lip before slipping it further inside to tangle playfully with his own. When he released her hands, she took the opportunity to twine her arms around his neck, her fingers playing idly with the hair at the nape. She moaned when he pushed her T-shirt up a little and, in a repeat of what he had done earlier in his car, he splayed his hand wide across her lower back, his thumb running back and forth just under the waistband of her jeans, teasing the skin there.
Her breath hitched in her throat when she felt him play with the clasp of her bra and breaking the kiss for a moment, she saw the hopeful look etched on his face. Sucking her top lip into her mouth, she dug her teeth into the delicate tissue as she considered what to do.
Things had been progressing between them lately and she loved how Nathan didn’t attempt to push her into anything she wasn’t ready for. In some ways, she was the one having to do the pushing and maybe this was another of those occasions.
Smiling up at him, Haley kissed his throat, nipping at his chin with her teeth as she released her hold on him and reached behind her back. She kept her eyes on him as she released the clasp and she couldn’t help giggling at the expression he wore on his face.
“Hales—”
“It’s okay,” she whispered, pushing herself up onto her toes so she could kiss him more fully. After a few moments had passed, she drew back again and removed her bra without taking her T-shirt off, throwing the simple cotton garment onto the floor somewhere.
“Nice trick,” Nathan said, smirking at her.
“Thank you,” she quipped, her face flushing a rosy pink as she suddenly seemed to realise what she had just done.
He had a pretty good idea of where Haley’s thoughts had just gone so to try and take her mind off of it, he closed the short gap between them and covered her mouth with his, kissing her long and slow, savouring the taste of her lips. His hands gripped her hips as he mentally fought with himself not to let them roam higher and touch certain other areas; areas which were now only covered by the thin fabric of her T-shirt.
“Do you want to lie down?” Haley asked when they eventually broke the kiss. Receiving no answer, she looked up at him and noticed his eyes had lowered to her chest which was rising and falling with each breath she took and she felt her cheeks heat up again.
“Do you?”
Nodding her head, she replied, “Yes.”
Releasing her from his embrace, Nathan watched as she kicked off her shoes and climbed up onto her bed, relaxing back amongst her pillows. Kicking off his sneakers without untying the laces, he followed suit and got onto the bed but instead of lying beside her, he crawled on top of her, bracing his weight on his forearms which were resting either side of her shoulders. “Is this okay?” he asked against her lips, brushing them with his own as he waited for her answer.
“Uh huh.” Her arms once again wound around his neck and he smiled against her mouth when she pulled him down so he was pressing her into the mattress.
The kiss they shared seemed hotter, more visceral than any of the others they’d shared that day and Nathan felt himself grow even harder. With them pressed so close together, he knew she could feel it but if she was feeling…uncomfortable, she wasn’t saying anything so he decided to go with the flow. He knew she’d tell him if she wanted him to stop.
Haley’s entire body, from the tip of her toes to the top of her head, was tingling and she couldn’t get enough of the sensation. Her fingers were pulling up his shirt as she craved to feel his bare skin against hers. “N-Nathan…”
Dazed and confused from the kisses they were sharing, he pushed himself up and regarded her. He couldn’t fail to notice the way her rich, chocolate brown eyes were sparkling or the darker colouring of her kiss-swollen lips. “What is it, Hales?” A thought suddenly occurred to him and he asked, “Do you want to stop?”
“God, no! I, uh… I want you to, uh, take your shirt off.”
His eyes twinkled mischievously. “Oh, you do, do you?” Twirling a few strands of her auburn hair around his finger, he lowered his head and gave her a somewhat chaste kiss in comparison to the others they’d already shared.
“If you don’t want to…”
“I never said that!” he was quick to say. Pushing himself up into a kneeling position, he pulled his shirt over his head and threw it to the side, not caring in the slightest where it landed. “Is that better for you?” he cheekily asked as he lowered himself back over her.
“Much,” Haley teased, running her hands all over his chest before moving them to his back and shoulders. She loved the way his muscles moved under his smooth, tanned skin which felt so warm to the touch. “You feel really good,” she whispered against the corner of his mouth.
“If you feel like taking off your T-shirt, you won’t hear me objecting.” He gave her a warm smile as he rubbed their noses together in a soft Eskimo kiss.
“I-I’ll keep that in mind.” Her mouth opened beneath his and she released a series of tiny moans and gasps as he stroked his tongue along hers, tickling the roof of her mouth with the tip of it. Without thinking about what she was doing, she took one of his hands in hers and she slipped it under the hem of her T-shirt.
Nathan suddenly broke the kiss and looked at her. No words were necessary as she traced circles over the back of his hand with her forefinger and he swallowed thickly. Fixing his eyes on hers, he slowly slid his hand further up until he was touching the soft fullness of her breast, her erect nipple pressing into his palm. “Is that okay?” he managed to ask, his voice deep and husky.
“Yesss,” she hissed, loving the feel of his large, slightly calloused hand cupping her bare breast. God, this felt even better than her dreams. A loud moan tore from her throat when he tugged on her sensitive nipple, the feeling shooting straight to her core, and she dug her fingers into his bicep.
“I love you,” Nathan whispered against her ear, his breathing coming in harsh pants. He couldn’t get enough of her. Her skin was so soft against him and he loved those little sounds of pleasure she was making as a direct result of what he was doing to her. Everything about her was a total turn on!
Placing both of her palms flat against his chest, Haley gently pushed him away from her, making sure to keep a smile on her face so he knew she wasn’t about to stop what they were doing.
He held his breath as he watched her sit up, her fingers going to the hem of her T-shirt as she slowly began easing it upwards. He almost swallowed his tongue when her naked breasts came into view and seeing the blush work its way back onto her face as well as her neck and upper chest, he quickly covered her with his body and laid her down amongst the pillows again. His hand cupped her cheek as he kissed her hotly, pouring everything he felt for her into it. His free hand stroked down the side of her body and upon arriving at her breast, he began kneading it softly.
Managing to shift her position slightly, Haley pulled her legs out from under Nathan and wrapped them around his waist, pulling in him even closer to her body. “Don’t stop, pl—”
Haley’s sentence was cut off by the ringing of the phone and she groaned against his neck.
“Don’t answer it,” Nathan mumbled, covering her mouth with his once more as the sound of the answering machine picking up the call played in the background
“Haley-bop, are you there? Pick up, honey,” Lydia James’ voice came through loud and clear which had Nathan jumping back from Haley as though the woman had suddenly walked into the room.
Haley couldn’t help giggling as she grabbed her T-shirt from the side of the bed and held it against herself. Reaching over to her nightstand, she picked up the phone and spoke to her mother.
Nathan tuned out the conversation, his gaze focused on his girlfriend. Her long hair was a tangled mess thanks to their activities both here and back at school and it was tumbling down her back. Moving closer to her, he pressed a kiss to her shoulder and he smiled warmly at her when she turned to look at him.
“I’m sorry,” she mouthed as she carried on the conversation.
He shrugged his shoulders. The way things were going, maybe the telephone call was a blessing in disguise. Feeling Haley’s legs wrapped around him, pulling him even closer to the cradle of her body… He didn’t know if he would’ve had the strength to stop things going even further than they already had today.
“Okay, I’ll see you in a little while, Mom. Bye,” Haley said, leaning forward to place the phone back in its base.
“They’re coming back?”
“Yeah, apparently Viv’s in-laws have dropped in unexpectedly and are staying over so Mom and Dad decided to come back home. There wouldn’t have been enough room for them to stay, too.”
“Her in-laws couldn’t have visited next weekend,” Nathan said, grumpily.
“I know,” she agreed, knowing exactly how he was feeling and feeling the same disappointment herself. “I’d suggest hanging out at your apartment but—”
“But?” he interrupted.
“They’re bringing dinner home with them and I might’ve mentioned you were here with me so they’re bringing extra. You can stay, right?”
Grinning at her, he nodded. “Sure. I, uh, guess we’d better straighten ourselves up and get downstairs before they arrive.”
“Yeah.”
Getting up off of the bed, Nathan went over to where his shirt hand landed and keeping his back to Haley, he gave her the chance to find and put on her bra and T-shirt. When she came around to stand in front of him a few minutes later, he lowered his head and pressed a kiss to her lips. “Are you okay? I mean, with what we did…you know, before?”
“I’m very okay.” Kissing him again, she walked over to her vanity and picked up her paddle brush, brushing her hair up into a ponytail and securing it with a scrunchie. Seeing his reflection in the mirror as he came to stand behind her, she smiled as she leaned back into him. “I’m sorry we were interrupted.”
“Me too but maybe it’s a good thing.” Seeing the frown on her face, he quickly added, “I’m not sure I’d have been able to stop if things had carried on the way they were going.”
“I’m not sure I would have either,” she confessed shyly. Turning to face him, she wrapped her arms around him and rested her head against his chest, enjoying the steady rhythm of his heartbeat which she could feel through the fabric of his shirt.
Nathan played with the ends of her ponytail as her words ran through his head. Damn!
“Do you have plans for tomorrow?”
“Yeah, I’m hanging out with you,” he stated, smirking at her.
“We could go to the park and get ice cream,” she told him and seeing his crestfallen face she gave him her own smirk. “And afterwards…”
“Afterwards?”
“We could hang out at your place.”
His smirk turned into a fully fledged smile and he nodded his head eagerly. “Sounds perfect.”
“Yeah, it does.”
They stood there looking at each other for a long moment, only breaking out of their trance when they both heard the slamming of a car door. Giving him one last kiss, Haley took Nathan’s hand in hers and led him downstairs. Hopefully, they could have the TV on and be settled on the couch before her parents came inside the house, although she had a feeling what they’d been up to was etched on both of their faces.
Oh well, never mind. What had happened with Nathan today was definitely worth the teasing and gentle ribbing they would no doubt be getting, she thought to herself with a smile.
