Chapter Three
As soon as Nathan had got the front door of their apartment open, he swept his new bride up into his arms and carried her across the threshold.
“You'd better not drop me,” Haley quipped before leaning in and brushing her lips over his.
“As if,” he scoffed.
She giggled as he demonstrated his strength by playfully spinning her around and dipping her backwards until the ends of her hair almost touched the floor before bringing her back up to eye level. “Okay, Muscles, if you don't want me to throw up on you, you might want to stop and put me down.” Bringing the back of her hand up to her forehead, she teased, “I mean, I'd hate for our night to be over before it's even begun.”
Nathan wasted no time in setting her down but he wasn't about to let her escape his clutches so, banding his arms around her waist, he drew her in as close to his body as possible. Peppering a series of butterfly kisses along her cheek until he arrived at her lips, he suckled her plump bottom lip into his mouth before releasing it. “Have I told you beautiful you looked today, Hales?”
“Hmm, I think you might have mentioned it once or twice.”
“Well, third time's the charm, right?”
Haley sighed into his mouth when his lips covered hers and as the kiss escalated, she buried her fingers into his hair; raking her French manicured nails across his scalp. “Nathan...”
Reluctantly pulling back from her, he smirked when he heard her disappointed moan. “C'mere,” he said, taking her hand in his and leading her into their living room where he gently eased her down onto the couch. “You wait here while I pop into our bedroom and—”
“Slip into something more comfortable?” she finished for him.
“No, Miss Smarty-pants.”
“I think you mean Mrs Smarty-pants,” she said, beaming up at him.
“Yeah, I do. I've actually got a couple of things to set up and I'll be back for you in a little while.”
“What things?”
“It's a surprise,” Nathan told her.
“You know I hate surprises.”
Lightly stroking her cheek with his thumb, he nodded. “Yeah, I know but I think you'll like what I've got planned. Now, stay here and don't turn around.”
“Okay,” Haley agreed. As much as she hated surprises, she couldn't wait to find out what he'd been up to. All of the surprises he'd organised for her in their years together had never failed to make her feel absolutely loved and cherished and she was certain the same would be be true tonight.
After making a detour into the kitchen and collecting the items he needed, Nathan headed for their bedroom and began setting everything up. Less than ten minutes later, he took a step back and smiled as he checked out his handiwork. Satisfied that it looked exactly how he'd pictured it when the idea had first popped into his head, he then went and grabbed the final item from its hiding place and – as quietly as he could – fixed it onto the front of the door.
Going back into the living room, his mouth dropped open when he saw Haley lying curled up on the sofa with her eyes closed. “No fricking way,” he mumbled under his breath. Walking over to her, he swept a stray lock of her glossy auburn hair aside and whispered her name, “Hales?”
The disappointment in his voice was clearly audible and she couldn't help but start laughing and upon opening her eyes, she asked, “What would you have done if I really had fallen asleep?”
“I'd have made as much noise as I could until you woke up,” he told her, adding, “I'm so gonna get you back for that.” Before she could say anything, he bent down and scooped her up into his arms. “So, are you ready to see your surprise?”
“Yes. Lead the way, handsome,” she said, first touching her lips to his cheek and then his mouth when he turned his head towards her.
“Here we are,” Nathan nervously announced a few seconds later, having stopped by their closed bedroom door.
Haley's breath caught in her throat when she saw a beautifully drawn sign declaring their bedroom to be 'The Honeymoon Suite'. “Oh my gosh, Nathan!”
“Just 'cause we're not going to an actual honeymoon suite I still wanted to make tonight extra special for you... for us.”
“It will be,” she said, smiling. “Did Peyton make the sign?”
He nodded. “Yeah. You know how artistically challenged I am so I figured if I wanted something that looked good I needed someone else to create it. She dropped it off after you left for Jimmy and Lydia's yesterday.”
“You're so sneaky, baby.”
Nathan smirked at that. “Like you're not.” Nuzzling his nose against hers, he whispered, “I love you.”
“I love you, too.”
Carefully shifting Haley in his arms, he opened the door and he unconsciously held his breath as he waited for her reaction.
Her eyes filled with tears when she saw how her husband had decorated their bedroom. Lit candles adorned practically every surface, creating a warm soft glow and casting flickering shadows onto the walls; while white, pink and purple rose petals were scattered all over the floor and their queen size bed. Glancing over to her nightstand, she saw an ice bucket which held what she assumed was a bottle of champagne and beside that was a bowl but she couldn't make out what was inside it.
“Do you like it?” Nathan asked nervously.
“I love it, Nathan,” she replied, caressing his cheek. “It's perfect.”
Gently lowering her so she was standing in front of him, he cradled the side of her face in his palm as he ducked his head and kissed her lips. “You're perfect.”
“Hmm, I could say the same about you,” Haley teased, her fingers toying with one of his shirt buttons. Pushing herself up onto her toes, she popped another kiss onto his lips before reluctantly drawing back from him. “Now it's my turn to disappear.”
“What?” His arms around her waist prevented her from getting too far away.
“I'm just going to the bathroom,” she said, chuckling. “I've got a little something I want to change into which I think you're going to love.”
“Really?” The corner of his lips quirked into a half-smirk.
“Uh huh. Now, while I'm gone how 'bout you get undressed and pour us some champagne.”
“Sure,” he replied, nodding. Unable to resist, he kissed her once more and smiled as he watched her go over to her closet and remove a small shopping bag from the back of it before she hitched up her wedding dress with her free hand and practically skipped out of the room.
Having already removed his jacket and tie when he'd initially begun setting the scene for the night ahead, Nathan removed his cuff-links, placing them on top of the dresser, and then started on unbuttoning his shirt. He made short work of stripping out of the rest of his clothes until he was down to just his black boxer briefs. Walking over to the nightstand, he opened the bottle of chilled champagne and poured some into each of the two champagne flutes he'd brought in earlier before taking a seat on the edge of the bed as he waited for Haley to return.
In the bathroom, Haley had finished getting changed out of her gown and into the lingerie she'd bought especially for tonight. Knowing how much Nathan loved her natural look, she'd removed her make-up and had applied just a little of the cherry flavoured lip balm he liked on her and was now just dabbing a little of her favourite perfume to her pulse points. With one final look in the mirror, she picked up her wedding dress from where she'd temporarily laid it over the towel rail and exited the bathroom, making a quick stop in the guest-room to place it on the bed before she headed to hers and Nathan's room. She felt the buzz of nervous energy swirling around in her stomach and she shook her head in amusement. Anyone would think she was a blushing virgin!
Hearing Haley's approaching footsteps on the hardwood floor, Nathan stood up and when she came into view a second later he nearly swallowed his tongue. “Wow!” he choked out. She was wearing a white embroidered babydoll nightie with a pink ribbon trim which skimmed the tops of her thighs. Through its sheer fabric, he could see the matching white panties she wore beneath it and his fingers itched with the urge to pull the little pink bows that were tied at either side.
“You like it, then?” she said, closing the short distance between them.
“Like doesn't even come close to describing it,” he stated, ducking his head to seal his mouth over hers as his fingers threaded through her hair which was still in its earlier half-up/half-down style, although she had removed the spray of flowers. His free arm wrapped around her waist and held her securely as they continued to devour each other.
Running her palms all over Nathan's back and shoulders, Haley smiled against his lips at the deep moan that escaped from him. Even after all these years together, she didn't think she'd ever get enough of kissing him and feeling his body pressed tightly against her own. “You feel so good,” she whispered when they'd broken the kiss to breathe in some much needed air.
“You do, too.” Resting his forehead against hers, he gazed into her rich chocolate brown eyes for what felt like an eternity before he drew back from her and led her over to their bed. Sitting down on the end of it, he cupped her hips and gently pulled her towards him. He laughed when she pushed him backwards so he was lying down and then climbed on top of him, straddling his waist. “In a hurry?”
“Yes,” she replied. Placing her hands on either side of his head, she laid on top of him and shyly added, “I feel like I've been waiting for this moment my whole life.”
Nathan swallowed thickly. He remembered when several years earlier she'd confessed to having been in love with him since she was fourteen-years-old so he knew how much weight her words held. As carefully as he could, he rolled them over so he was now on top and he captured her lips, kissing her long and slow; his tongue playfully duelling with hers. He shivered at the sensation of her blunt fingernails lightly scraping up and down his back and he growled when her fingers delved beneath the waistband of his underwear and dug into his butt.

Slipping her hands between them, Haley pushed at the waistband of his boxers, telling him without words what she wanted and he was only too happy to comply with her silent demand. “I remember,” he said, smiling as he recalled the day five years ago when she'd appeared on his doorstep to ask him for his help in becoming more sexually experienced. Taking her left hand in his, he kissed the white gold band he'd slid onto her finger earlier that day before intertwining their fingers.
Pressing a kiss to his own wedding ring, Haley leaned into him and kissed him sweetly, giggling when he rolled over onto his back and pulled her on top of him. “I love you, baby.”
“I love you, too, Hales... Always and forever.”

A sliver of bright sunshine streaming in through the partially opened curtains was the first thing Haley saw when she opened her eyes and she quickly closed them, turning over onto her side. Slowly opening them again, she was greeted by the sight of a wide awake Nathan who was lying beside her, his arm bent at the elbow with his head resting in his palm.
“Morning,” he said, smiling as he inched towards her and dropped a kiss onto her lips. “Did you sleep well?” Picking up one of the stray rose petals which still adorned their bed, he brushed it along her collarbone as he waited for her to respond.
“Uh huh,” she replied. Plucking the petal from him, she laced their fingers together. “I had the strangest dream though; I dreamt we actually got married.”
“That's weird... I had the same dream.”
Haley giggled as he leaned over her and found her lips again. “Mmm...” she moaned happily, turning over onto her back and wrapping her arms around him when he moved on top of her.
Taking her left hand in hers as he'd done last night, their eyes were immediately drawn to the ring gracing her finger. “Oh, that's right, we actually did get married.”
“We did get married,” she repeated, her smile illuminating her whole face. Threading the fingers of her right hand through his thick dark hair, she slid them around to the back of his head just as she lifted her own off of her pillow so she could meet his approaching lips that little bit faster.
When they broke apart, he nuzzled his nose against hers, he nervously asked, “Was last night okay? I mean, the fact that we came here instead of going to a hotel.”
Tenderly stroking his face, she said, “Last night was amazing, Nathan, and I'm so glad you had the idea of turning our bedroom into our very own honeymoon suite.” She smiled as she recalled them laying in each others arms, sipping champagne and feeding one another chocolate covered strawberries before the passion consumed them once more and they spent the rest of the night and early hours of the morning making love.
Reassured by her words, he nodded and fused his lips to hers once more, kissing her long and leisurely, curling his tongue around her own and drawing it into his own mouth.
“What time is it?” Haley asked breathlessly several minutes later when the need for air had become too strong to ignore.
“Why, am I on the clock here?” Kissing his way down the column of her throat, he latched onto the base of her neck and blew a raspberry against it.
“Nathan!” she said, playfully slapping his shoulder as she wriggled beneath him.
“That's it, baby; keep doing that,” he teased.
“I wanted to know the time 'cause we've got a flight to catch this morning.”
Bracing his weight on his hands, Nathan smiled down at her. “Oh, well that's okay, then,” he said, flashing her a wink. “The cab's booked for ten and our luggage is waiting by the front door. Our tickets and everything else we need is in your purse so we're good to go as soon as we're up and dressed.”
“Okay,” she replied, satisfied that they weren't going to have to rush to the airport.
“Now, since it's still early...” he trailed off, fully aware that his wife would know exactly what he was thinking.
Rubbing her toes along his calf, Haley raised an eyebrow in question. “What did you have in mind?”
“Oh, I'm pretty sure you know,” he told her as he began kissing his way down her body, taking the covers with him.
She was pretty sure she knew, too, she thought, chucking to herself. Raising her arms above her head, she braced her palms against the headboard as Nathan's lips began working their magic all over her.
