SPRING PICTURE DAY
Spring Picture Day is coming on Tuesday, February 4th! We will take class and individual pictures. For more information about Spring Picture Day, visit: https://schools.lifetouch.com/for-your-families/
Dear Glenhope parents,
Thank you, from the bottom of my heart. Thank you for the privilege of working with you and your children for the last 25 years and for the support and encouragement you have provided me. This has been my dream job and I have loved leading our school and being part of the community.
While it has not been an easy decision because I do love my work, I have decided to retire at the end of this year. My husband and I have some exciting travel plans and we are looking forward to being able to spend extended time seeing more of the world while we are in good health and able to do so.
The district will begin the process of selecting my replacement soon, and they will communicate with you as the process unfolds. It will be a change for our staff and students but I believe we have built a strong foundation that will allow Glenhope to continue to thrive moving forward.

GCISD Middle School Day February 5
Dear Parents of GCISD 5th Graders,
We are excited to announce an upcoming event designed to help incoming middle school students get a taste of the GCISD middle school experience! On February 5, we will be hosting the GCISD Middle School Day, an engaging opportunity for students to explore the offerings and environment of their future middle schools.
Date: Wednesday, February 5
Time: 10-11:30 a.m. (leave campus at 9:30 a.m.)
Transportation: Busing will be provided for all participating students
Lunch: Students will eat when they return to their elementary campuses
The event will give students a chance to experience life as a middle schooler in GCISD. Students will be bussed or walk to the middle school nearest to their elementary campus to participate in a 6th grade experience, including a group introduction and rotations focused on middle school offerings such as art, band, choir, theatre, and AVID.
Each elementary school will have specific middle school assignments for this experience:
Cross Timbers Middle School: Glenhope and Timberline
The day will begin with a whole group introduction to provide students with important information about middle school, including course selection and other helpful details. Following this, students will participate in rotations where they will explore different elective options.
In addition to the daytime event, each middle school will host campus-specific sessions in the evening of February 5 for students and their parents. These sessions will focus on providing additional details about the specific middle school campus, including the electives and programs they offer. You are encouraged to attend the middle school for which you are zoned.
We look forward to helping your child make a smooth transition into middle school and are excited for them to experience the variety of opportunities that await them!
If you have a current 5th grader, it's already time to start preparing them to join the CTMS Wolf Pack. Mrs. Canafax will be meeting with all 5th grade students on February 3rd to talk about middle school and to briefly review their course selection options. They will fill out those course selection guides and then submit them to their homeroom teachers by February 10th. Mrs. Canafax and the 5th grade teachers will review them to check that everyone has signed up for appropriate courses, then the week of February 17 Mrs. Canafax will meet with all 5th grade students to guide them through entering their course selections in Skyward. The Middle school counselors will give parents an opportunity to review what students have entered in Skyward before summer break.
Check out our 5th to 6th grade transition website for more information about everything related to moving from elementary to middle school! Bookmark this site, as the elementary and middle school counselors will add more to it as information becomes available.

SCHOOL REPORT CARDS
The Texas Education Agency (TEA) has released the 2024 Federal Report Cards at the State, District, and Campus level with information as required by federal law. The Federal Report Cards do not contain 2024 State Accountability Rating information.
To view our district and campus federal report cards, please visit our Accountability webpage (https://www.gcisd.net/page/school-report-cards-src) for a link to search on TEA's site or click on the red "Archived State and Federal SRCs" button at the bottom of the page.
Request for LEGO Donations for LEGO Club
We are looking to enhance our LEGO Club by incorporating LEGO bricks into our lessons and activities for kindergarten through second grade.
We would greatly appreciate it if you would consider donating any unused or unwanted LEGO sets or pieces that you may have at home. These donations will be used primarily for STEM challenges. No contribution is too small, and any LEGO pieces—whether large or small, complete or partial—would be incredibly helpful.
If you have any LEGO pieces you’re willing to part with, please send them in with your child or feel free to drop them off in the foyer with Lego Club or Mrs. Griffard labeled on them. If you have any questions or would like more details, don’t hesitate to reach out.
Thank you so much for your support and generosity. We’re excited to see the creativity and learning that will come from this project!
Visit the i-Ready Family Center website to learn more about i-Ready and view additional resources to help support your child.
Congratulations to all of our Gators who entered the PTA Reflections Arts Competition, we had so many wonderful entries this year and it is always amazing to see the creativity of our Gators. The students listed below received the Award of Excellence, Award of Merit or an Honorable Mention. All of those who received the Award of Excellence will be moving on for judging at the district level.
Be on the lookout for an email from the district about Play it Safe. The email contains detailed information about the Play it Safe program. In order for your child to view the presentation, you must follow the instructions in the district email. The email asks you to OPT IN or OPT OUT of Play it Safe. The email also references a Play it Safe preview, which was hosted live on January 14th but is now available for you to watch at any time HERE. Glenhope students who have opted in will view the presentation during Specials time on March 28th. If you did not receive the email or if you have any questions after reading the email/viewing the previews, please reach out to me at lauren.canafax@gcisd.net
February Character Trait: HONESTY
When students visit for Guidance time in January, we will focus on HONESTY. Students will learn that honesty is "being truthful in what you say and do." We will review scenarios where students may be tempted to be dishonest and will discuss how telling the truth in that scenario would ultimately be best.
If you would like to learn more about the role of a school counselor, please visit our GCISD Counseling website. Reach out to Lauren Canafax (lauren.canafax@gcisd.net) if your student needs a check-in or if you have any questions/concerns.
Repeated information
We want to remind you about the 90% attendance rule in Texas. According to state law, students must maintain at least 90% attendance in order to receive credit for their courses. This means that students cannot exceed 18 full or partial day absences throughout the school year.
If your child has to miss school due to a doctor’s appointment or any other reason, please remember to send a doctor’s note to Ms. Tanya within 5 days of the absence. These partial day absences will be coded as doctor appointments and will not count toward the total number of absences.
Thank you for your cooperation in helping us support your child's education!
Important attendance information: Attendance matters! Absences from class may result in serious disruption of a student’s learning and educational experiences. Parents and students are encouraged to avoid unnecessary absences. Two important state laws govern attendance. In efforts to promote student attendance and learning, please note the following reminders and updates to GCISD attendance requirements.
Laws Governing School Attendance:
Compulsory Attendance (AKA Truancy)
Pre-kindergarten and Kindergarten
Students enrolled in prekindergarten or kindergarten are required to attend school and are subject to the compulsory attendance requirements as long as they remain enrolled at a campus.
Ages 6–18
State law requires that a student who is at least six years of age, or who is younger than six years of age and has previously been enrolled in first grade, and who has not yet reached their 19th birthday, shall attend school, as well as any applicable accelerated instruction program, extended-year program, or tutorial session, unless the student is otherwise excused from attendance or legally exempt. Students/families who do not meet compulsory attendance will be referred to the GCISD Attendance Review Board and/or referred to Tarrant County Court for truancy. If a student fails to attend school without excuse on three or more days or parts of days within a four-week period but does not fail to attend school for the time described below, the district shall initiate truancy prevention measures on the student.
Attendance for Credit or Final Grade (AKA 90% Rule)
To receive credit or a final grade in a class, a student in kindergarten–grade 12 must attend at least 90 percent of the days the class is offered. With the exception of absences due to serious or life-threatening illness or related treatment, all absences, whether excused or unexcused, must be considered in determining whether a student has attended the required percentage of days. Students who are in danger of losing credit or promotion will be contacted by the campuses with plans for opportunities to regain lost instructional time.
Official Attendance-Taking Time
Official attendance is taken every day at 10:00 a.m. Attendance is taken at 8:55 a.m. at Collegiate Academy and 12 p.m. for Bridges.
Documentation after an Absence
Up to eight days per year (four per semester) may be excused by a parent note for missed attendance beyond medical, approved excused, and statutorily exemptions. Vacations taken during the school year will be coded as unexcused absences. All absences whether excused or unexcused count toward the 90% rule.
A parent must provide an explanation for any absence upon the student’s arrival or return to school. The student must submit a note signed by the parent. The campus may accept a phone call from the parent, but reserves the right to require a written note. A note signed by the student will not be accepted unless the student is age 18 or older or is an emancipated minor under state law. The campus will document in its attendance records whether the absence is excused or unexcused.
Please email Nurse Liz (elizabeth.giblin@gcisd.net) and Tanya Hill (tanya.hill@gcisd.net) whenever your child will be out sick.
